(FYTD: Fiscal Year to Date, from July 1 to June 30.) 2015 YEAR OF CONCECRATED LIFE We assume the apostles must have been solid, holy people because Jesus handpicked them to be part of his inner circle of friends and disciples. But the gospels present quite a different picture. These were ordinary people who weren t always clear about Jesus message, who occasionally turned their back on Jesus even when he was most in need, and who struggled with their own faith. The apostles relationship with Jesus as well as their faith was a work in progress that ultimately brought them closer to God. Like the apostles, we, too, encounter struggles in our relationship with Jesus and our faith. Allow your struggles and missteps to become another positive step in getting to know God more deeply. MARTHA S SCHEDULED FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM ACTIVITIES JUNE 21 - JULY 4 Ringing of the St. Martha Church bells at noon for five minutes on June 21 and July 4. Holy Rosary for the intention of religious freedom after the 7:30 a.m. Mass every day during the Fortnight. Exposition of the Holy Eucharist in the Church, 9-9:30 a.m., everyday during the Fortnight, except Sunday. Eucharistic Holy Hour in the Church, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., in the Church on Friday, June 26. We encourage you to mark Friday, June 26, and Friday, July 4, as days of penance, making some form of reparation, such as fasting (one regular and two smaller meals) or abstinence from meat, or from your favorite food or drink. Please participate as much as possible during the two-week time frame. It is critically important that we make our voices heard so that Catholic organizations, companies and individuals do not suffer further religious freedom restrictions. 3 JUNE 21, 2015 From Our Pastor, Fr. Fausto... My Dear Friends, HAPPY FATHER S DAY TO ALL OUR FATHERS! May the Father in Heaven reward you for all the sacrifices done for your children! Our gratitude should go, on Father s Day, to the Daddy ( Abba in Hebrew) of all: God. When you t alk to God in Holy Communion, tell Him how much you appreciate life, joy, family, spiritual and worldly gifts from Him. Let us be grateful to God for all He has given us, without grumbling for what we lack. Like father, like son we hear often, and I would encourage all of you Daddies to give the best example of loving kindness and patient justice to your children. Remember that in our Christian Faith we address God with the title of FATHER. If you fathers project to your kids an unhealthy image of yourselves, you will damage the concept of God in your children! How can your children conceive lovingly about the FATHER IN HEAVEN when the DADDY is an unloving, angry, spiteful father? WHAT A MESSAGE IS COMING TO US IN TODAY S GOSPEL! How many times we have found ourselves in the same situation as the Apostles in that storm! The Lord, I suppose, knew that a storm was brewing but still He decided to cross the lake, so that, deadly tired, He could take a restorative nap, as is so common to all of us when the gentle waves lull us to rest and relax. Jesus must have been truly exhausted to be asleep even when the waves, pushed by the violent squall, were crashing inside the boat and, I m sure, drenching even the sleeping Lord. Panic caught all in the boat who finally managed to awake Jesus: DO YOU NOT CARE THAT WE ARE PERISHING? How many times, in our panic and in our troubles, we repeat that same sent ence to God: Where are you when my spouse is divorcing me? Where are you now that I lost my job? Where are you now when my spouse has Alzheimer's? Where are you now when my son is on drugs? Where are you now when my child has been killed? Where are you now when I m in my hole of despair? Where are you now when my young daughter has cancer? Where are you now when my siblings stole Dad s inheritance? Where are you now when I m deeply depressed and suicidal? Where are you now when my soul finds no solace in prayer? Where are you, WHERE ARE YOU? My life, my boat is sinking into the terrible pain of loneliness, feeling abandoned by all, including you, my God! Blinded by sorrow and pain, with tears streaming from our eyes, we cannot see that Jesus is in our boat, in our soul, in our life. In these terrible moments of our lives, let s follow the example of the disciples and scream in our pain to Jesus. KEEP PRAYING without getting tired! So that at the right FATHER S DAY moment, determined by God s divine providence, we may find solace and consolation. Let us not be terrified and BELIEVE STRONGLY that God is still in our boats/lives and we will be filled with great awe at His mercy, strength and miraculous solution of our difficulties, because even if we are still on the cross with Jesus, our Savior will sustain us with His grace. THE FOURTH ANNUAL FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM BEGINS TODAY, AND RUNS THROUGH SATURDAY, JULY 4. BISHOP DEWANE IS CALLING ON THE DIOCESE OF VEN- ICE to once again join Catholic Archdioceses across the United States to raise awareness for domestic and international religious freedom concerns. The theme of this two week focus is FREEDOM TO BEAR WITNESS, and emphasizes the link between religious liberty and service to the poor and vulnerable. It is also a time when our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. Please see the details of St. Martha s activities during the fortnight in today s bulletin. WEDNESDAY, WE CELEBRATE THE FEAST DAY OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST, THE LAST PROPHET OF THE OLD TES- TAMENT. According t o the Gospel of Luke (:36), John was a cousin of Jesus and was conceived six months before Jesus, and as early as the end of the Roman persecution, John s birth was celebrated in all Christendom. NEXT WEEKEND OUR DIOCESE WILL TAKE UP THE PETER S PENCE COLLECTION, which provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression and natural disasters. Through your generosity, we can cast the peace of Christ upon the world. Cathy & Marianne HERO OF RELIGIOUS LIBERTY AND MARRIAGE! St. Thomas More was an English Catholic lawyer, who opposed King Henry VIII s separation from the Catholic Church. More held fast to Church teachings on marriage and the Supremacy of the Pope. In 1535, More was tried for treason, imprisoned and beheaded. We celebrate his feast day on June 22 during the Fortnight for Freedom. St. Thomas More pray for us!

Paluch Co Protection in Any Storm In our first reading today, the prophet Job finds himself in the midst of a terrible storm. God speaks to Job from the storm and assures him of His protection and His ability to calm and control all storms. Many of us are beset with storms as well, and the point of our readings is that same assurance from the Lord that He is there to protect us and to help us. Most of us are familiar with the story of Job as reported in the Old Testament. A faithful and righteous man, Job loses everything, but because of his faith, he finishes better than when he started. There are forces beyond humankind s ability to control. Our own world may seem to be filled with forces beyond our control, but God is capable of controlling anything and everything. In the midst of the storms of our lives, we need to take the time to turn to God and ask for help. The Lord will respond. We must think of the many times in our lives when the Lord has blessed us and kept us.
