2 MARCH 25, 2018 PSALTER WEEK II From Our Pastor, Fr. Fausto... My Dear Friends, Today is Palm Sunday, the door to Holy Week, which is the most sacred week to us, the followers of Jesus, when we re-live with Him His last days on earth and the most astonishing victory of Jesus over death. Today, bring home the palms blessed at Mass, hang them in a visible place at home (the main crucifix of the house is the best position for the palms) and whenever you have a fight or tragic news, look at the palms and remember the cheering of Jesus entrance into Jerusalem, His betrayal by one of His chosen disciples, His death and resurrection. Then, bowing in prayer, you can find strength and consolation in your worst days of pain, loneliness and anxiety. Please cut out the schedule for Holy Week, place it in a prominent place in your home and refer to it. We should make this week truly Holy by going to Church every day, even if it is only for a few minutes of prayer. Try to attend Mass and go to Confession. We invite all parishioners who are not working on Tuesday, March 31, to attend the Chrism Mass at Epiphany Cathedral, at 10:30 am. The Church will remain closed in the morning on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. This is done so that we may concentrate ourselves to re-live Jesus last hours of life. On Holy Thursday, at 7 p.m., we re-live the Last Supper of Jesus and the institution of the Holy Eucharist and, consequently, the commemoration of the Institution of Holy Orders. It is the perfect day for all of us to receive Jesus in our hearts! The presider will also wash the feet of some faithful as a reminder that the recipients of the Holy Orders (Bishop, Priest, Deacon) were ordained to serve, not to be served! The Eucharistic Adoration will follow the Last Supper, and will last until 10:30 p.m. Confessions will be heard in the church after Mass until 10:30 pm. There will be a Vietnamese Mass at 7:30 pm in the Hall. The collection taken on Holy Thursday is only for the poor. On Good Friday, we mourn Jesus death and in the Solemn Liturgies: Marian Stations of the Cross in the Church at Noon Passion Liturgy (English, in the Church) at 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. Passion Liturgy (Vietnamese, in the Hall) at 7:30 p.m. We re-live Jesus last hours with the Proclamation of John s Gospel. We Adore and Kiss our Crucified Lord, offering Him our Lenten sacrifices, and we receive Holy Communion. Good Friday is the only day of the Catholic Calendar when the Holy Mass is not celebrated. Remember Good Friday is a day of Fast and Abstinence from meat. Make a super-special sacrifice to thank Jesus for dying for us! Each year, with the Good Friday collection, the Holy Father invites Catholics to support fellow Christians and sacred shrines in the Holy Land. The Holy Places of Christ s life and death stand as a living sign of His concern for those who share His land and His humble life of hard work and pain. Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing and feeding the poor, providing religious formation and education, maintaining shrines and parishes and conducting pastoral ministry. For more information, visit myfranciscan.org/good-friday/. On Holy Saturday, at Noon, we Bless the Food Baskets (an old European Tradition against the sin of gluttony, when we re eating again after the Lenten Fast, and also in thanksgiving for the new fruits of the Season). And, as soon as the sun goes down, we celebrate the most precious celebration of our Catholic Faith: the Easter Vigil. In prayer and joy we welcome our new members of the Church, and we celebrate the Glorious Resurrection of Jesus. This vigil, lasting about two hours, is the most impressive ceremony of the Catholic Church. This year we will have an additional Mass on Saturday evening, 11:00 p.m., in the Church, following the Easter Vigil service. We hope this will alleviate some of the heavy crowds of tourists and seasonal families expected on Easter Morning! On Easter Sunday, the Sunrise Service will start at 6:30 a.m. in the Courtyard and will end in the Church. To our tourist and seasonal visitors, we extend a welcome to our crowded pews and aisles at all of our many Masses and Services. We welcome you, as well as our regular parishioners, in celebrating this Holy Season with us. We ask all of you, who are not registered in our Parish, to please use the envelopes in the pews to give us an acknowledgment of your appreciation. They can be found in the pews and at all entrances. Thank you in advance! May God bless you! Our School will be closed at Noon on Wednesday, March 28 and will resume classes on Tuesday, April 9. The staff and students of St. Martha School wish you all a most Holy and Joyous Easter! Let us think of that murderer and thief crucified alongside Jesus, who at the very last hour of his life asked Jesus for forgiveness, so to enter into Paradise. Through the eons of time, the consoling words of Jesus reach all of us sinners: Today you will be with me in my kingdom! Let us trust in Jesus crazy love for all mankind, and especially for us, his favorite Christian Children! On Good Friday, March 30, our parishioners are invited to observe The Way or Stations of the Cross in a silent procession down the center of Main Street. Many of the Downtown churches will be participating with pastors, priests, deacons, church leaders and youth groups taking part in this Community Service. Stopping at each of the 14 Stations will offer opportunity for reflection upon the different moments of Christ s passion journey. Since 2002, the 23-member Downtown Churches & Ministries Association of Sarasota, which we are a part of, has joined Redeemer Church in being a witness to Sarasota of Christ s redemptive sufferings. The Christian pilgrimage gathers at 7:15 a.m. in front of the Hollywood 20 Theater. The final station, the Church of the Redeemer, 222 S. Palm Ave., will be reached near 8:30 a.m., when all are invited to a Service of Morning Prayer (Matins).

5 Believing in Jesus means giving him our flesh with the humility and courage of Mary, so that he can continue to dwell in our midst. -Pope Francis Congratulations to all of the St. Martha Catholic School Principal Award winners for the first semester! S. M B S Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind; so that you may discern what is the will of God - what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2. Mondays from 6 to 7 pm - Geenen Hall Tuesdays from 9:15 to 10:15 - Conf. Rm St. Martha Bible Study continues our study of selected writings of St. Paul including the Letter to the Romans and other letters. All are welcome to join us at any time. Please bring your bibles. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. If you want to drink, That s your business. If you want to stop, that s ours. Alcoholics Anonymous (941) FROM THE OFFICE OF OUR BISHOP: Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Soon we will all gather for the Passion of the Lord on Good Friday. That day, all have the opportunity to participate in the special Collection for the Holy Land, the land where Our Savior walked. In this difficult time of persecution. Our Holy Father calls all to stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land, and in doing so we become instruments of peace to this troubled part of the world. Christians living there, descendants of our brothers and sisters who first believed and lived the Christian faith, carry an extra burden. This special Collection helps sustain Christianity in the Holy Land. Funds help minister to the Faithful in parishes, provides formation and education, builds homes, provides senior care facilities, creates jobs, and feeds the hungry. The sacred shrines in the Holy Land are maintained with this help so pilgrims can follow in the footsteps of Jesus. The Holy Land Collection in the Diocese of Venice will be taken up on Good Friday, March 30, 2018, as It will be throughout the world. Your support of the Good Friday collection is a symbolic way of walking the Way of the Cross as do many of our elder brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. May God bless you for your generosity! This opportunity is taken to extend to you my continued consideration as well as my prayers. Have a Blessed Holy Week! Sincerely Yours in Christ Frank J. Dewane Bishop of the Diocese of Venice in Florida PRAYERFUL RALLY TO PROTEST PLANNED PARENTHOOD SATURDAY, APRIL 28 At 10 a.m. we will gather at the Community Pregnancy Center located next to Planned Parenthood at th St. At 10:30 a.m. we will begin a silent Jericho Walk around the block; and 11:00 a.m. we with gather in front of PP to sing.
