3 MAY 3, 2015 From Our Pastor, Fr. Fausto... MY DEAR FRIENDS, IN TODAY S GOSPEL, THE LIFE OF JESUS (THE AMAZING GRACE ) is the vital lymph running from the vine to the last minuscule branch and leaves, giving them sustenance and life; Jesus is the vine, we are the branches. When we (branches) are cut off from Jesus (vine) through mortal sin, we die! We ll come back to life when the branch is grafted back to the vine, and the sooner the better. The more conscious we become of our branching into Jesus, the more observant we become of Jesus inspirations and commandments in our daily thoughts and actions. Consequently, the more saintly our lives will become, and we will be more effective as recruiters of others toward Jesus, our light. Sometimes we, Jesus followers, joyfully get together on Sundays to achieve our close encounter with Jesus. But then we find so much difficulty in radiating and sharing the powerful inner presence of Jesus with people around us throughout the week. The cares and stress of our daily life make us forget such closeness with Jesus, but still all of us Catholics bring with us a special presence of the Trinity: We are bearers of God s light, whether we are consciously aware of it or not. NEXT SUNDAY, MOTHER S DAY, OUR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM will conclude their catechism year with the crowning of the statue of Our Blessed Mother at the 9:00 a.m. Mass in the Hall. Let us keep our beautiful Catholic traditions alive and vibrant, and let us pass them on to the younger generation, especially our tender love and devotion to the Blessed Mother of Jesus. And, at t he 10:30 a.m. Mass in t he Church, St. Mart ha School children will also crown our lady on the altar. Systematic Catechesis for your young people would not be possible without the service of our parish volunteer catechists, assistants and aids. These are members of our St. Martha s faith community, who very quietly serve the parish and make faith formation possible for your young people. Their love, interest and dedication are the examples that Jesus has taught us...and they share all of this unselfishly for St. Martha s and the entire Catholic Church. We will never be able to adequately thank them. We thank them with respe ct and love. God will reward them abundantly! AND, BY THE WAY, HOW IS YOUR MARIAN DEVO- TION going in this beautiful month of May? Keep the Rosary wrapped around your fingers and Mary will keep us wrapped in Her embrace. WE GREATLY APPRECIATE THE GENEROSITY OF THOSE PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE PLEDGED AND GIVEN TO THE 2015 CATHOLIC FAITH APPEAL. Our goal is $318,000. You dear parishioners, as of 4/26/15, have pledged $226,871. You represent only 18.5% of our registered households. If ALL households pledged the price of a cup of Starbucks each week, we would be over goal and the parish receives all the over goal gifts for its needs. We need to pray for the continued success of this campaign. Your gift to the Catholic Faith Appeal supports the Office of Religious, which provides support, organizes and coordinates ongoing education, including several events throughout the year for the 76 sisters, 15 brothers and all the religious order priests living in the Diocese. On April 18, at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Boca Raton, Bishop Felipe Esteves of the Diocese of St. Augustine ordained Lawton Lang as a Transitional Deacon. Deacon Lang was born and raised in Sarasota. He went to Incarnation Parish as a child and most recently attended St. Martha Parish. He is in his third year of Theology at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach. Walking the Talk In today s second reading, St. John says, Let us not love in word or speech, but in deed and truth. We ve all heard the adage, Actions speak louder than words. Truly in terms of stewardship what we do is much more important than what we might say. The early Church would not have survived and thrived without a strong sense of stewardship. Our first reading recounts the challenges Saul (St. Paul) had with the disciples in Jerusalem. Paul was not readily accepted because they remembered what he had once done in persecuting them. However, Barnabas both accepts and introduces Paul as one of them. This is a lesson in hospitality and in how we should treat others. This lesson is central to a stewardship parish. St. John s point is that we cannot just talk about love; we must carry it out with action. When we are hospitable, warm and welcoming, we take the next step and reach out to others. That is the action element in stewardship reaching out to serve those in need. Mother Theresa made reference to a problem in the world in that there are people who more or less love humanity, but they don t love each person who makes up that humanity. Could that be us? Jesús usa la imagen como un aviso a los que se han empezado a distanciar de la senda del Señor. Esto sucede cuando amamos a Dios y a otros con palabras o dichos y no con la verdad y las obras. Qué significa para nosotros permanecer en Cristo? El Señor nos da un ejemplo con la extensión de la metáfora. Si permanecemos en él, daremos mucho fruto.
