2 Meet Deacon Joe!! I am Joseph Herman Robert Meilinger IV. In my youth I studied to be a priest for 6 years. I left the seminary and studied at Loyola University, Chicago, majoring in philosophy with a minor in psychology. I eventually married a wonderful woman, Denise Travers, the mother of my four children, to whom I have been married for 56 years. I have four, practicing Catholic children and 11 grandchildren who are my pride and joy. My great grandfather, grandfather, and father were butchers. I began to learn butchering at the age of 9. So it is not surprising that I made my living in the meat industry. I began with Hygrade Foods, was a buyer for A&P Tea Co, and finished in Colorado as a VP of sales and marketing for Monfort of Colorado for 27 years. After that I went to work for the Church full time. When my children became adults I was called back to ministry in the Church. Thanks to Vatican Council II, I was able to take four more years of formation and I was ordained a deacon of the Church in I am a Knight Commander in the Equestrian Knights of the Holy Sepulcher. I m also a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and I have practiced as a deacon for 29 years. I love my ministry and all the people I have met through it. Officially I am a retired deacon, with faculties, as of my 75th birthday, however I continue to participate liturgically at Our Lady of the Valley Parish. A deacon has no official parish except the cathedral since he answers to the Archbishop, but he may work in any parish with the pastor s permission. I have dedicated myself to spread the Word of God to all people. I repeat daily the words the bishop said to me at ordination, as he handed me the Book of Gospels: Believe what you read, teach what you believe, and practice what you teach.

5 Children's Saint Books Needed We are collecting donated, new or gently used, Children's Saint Books for our Confirmation Students, so they will have plenty of books to choose from when researching a patron saint. The Knights of Columbus, Fr. Gregg, and all of our parishioners would like to pause on this historic day and honor all OLV living veterans with a special blessing, bulletin insert, Knights Honor Guard, and a uniform display in the Narthex. All OLV living veterans are requested to provide their Name, Rank, and Branch of Service to Robert Young, us4evr@skybeam.com, or no later than Sun. Oct. 28th.

From the fires in the west to the hurricanes in the south, many of our brothers and sisters have been affected. The Denver March for Life is Sat. Jan. 12th. The Respect Life Committee has a 55-passenger bus leaving OLV at 9am and returning by 5pm. Cost is Adults- $10, Child-$5, Family-$20. OLV Giving Tree The office is now accepting names of families that are in need of assistance for Christmas. If you, or a family you know, are struggling and in need of help with presents for Christmas, please contact Ella Kaiser at ella@ourladyofthevalley.net. All requests for assistance must be turned into the office by 4:30pm on Wed. Oct. 31 st. Remembrance Book The book for our deceased loved ones is on the table in the Narthex for those who would like to enter names into it. It will be placed on the Altar on All Souls Day and remain there throughout November. Connection Update Forms For the past few weeks, we have asked that you help the parish office to update your records so that we have correct phone numbers, addresses and physical addresses. Thank you for your cooperation with this!! If you haven t completed a form, they are now located on the table at the Information Desk. You may complete one and give it to the volunteer at the desk.
