2 O CTOBER 25, 2015 From Our Pastor, Fr. Fausto... My Dear Friends, WOULDN T IT BE MARVELOUS IF WE COULD HAVE BEEN LIVING AT JESUS TIME AND GONE TO HIM FOR ANY ILLNESS and be cured by the great healer? Well, miracles do happen today also, if we could insistently ask the good Lord, just as Bartimaeus did, with his shouting and perseverance. Notice also that this is the second time that Mark reports the expression: Son of David, a Messianic title, applied to Jesus. And what a contrast between the soul -blind apostles and the believing blind man! Anyway, let us follow the blind man s perseverance, and when the devil tempts us with discouragement, and the suggestion that God is not there for us, let us scream even louder and with more insistence, and we will move God s heart, and we will obtain any special favor we are asking, IF IT IS compatible with our ETERNAL SALVATION. Jesus sentence in today s Gospel YOUR FAITH HAS SAVED YOU! sums up what is essential in our religious faith, the virtue which makes us accept God s existence, Jesus leadership in carrying His cross and our following Him with inner strength and unshakable hope that we will join Him in Heaven. Faith makes us win all doubts, carry all pains, sufferings and personal rejection by other people, readiness to die for Jesus, serenity in facing death, with the certainty of our glory in Paradise. Let us ask Jesus: LORD, INCREASE OUR FAITH! AS YOU WELL KNOW, OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH, and the annual 40 DAYS FOR LIFE has been ongoing since September 23. St. Martha s final vigil day is this Saturday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of Planned Parenthood on the corner of Central Ave. and 8th St. Please be sure to join your fellow parishioners and walk and PRAY to end abortion. As Catholics, we respect life at all stages, from conception to natural death. As Catholics, we defend the poor of all ages and social conditions. We must show mercy for the poorest of all the babies in their mothers womb. Please join us on Saturday and take a stand for LIFE. A young lady offered me this poem as a sign of her repentance: AN APOLOGY TO AN ANGEL I anxiously await the moment my soul is reunited with yours; the decision I made long ago deserves the pain which my heart endures. Reparation I can not achieve for the vile sin I did commit; my loss and grief has no face that I know, I made my choice, now I live with it. At the time it seemed acceptable, many opinions were cast my way; support for my choice was all around, but God would not approve of that day. It is hard to accept forgiveness, memories are hard to surrender; I know what I did was very wrong, my penance lives as I remember. People are given many chances, God gives many blessings from above; sometimes gifts are taken for granted, a child symbolizes God s love. JESUS ALWAYS FORGIVES, and our Pope Francis has granted all priests, during the year of Mercy, beginning December 8, 2015, permission to forgive the sin of abortion without sending the repentant sinner to the Bishop. LET S CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR THE SYNOD OF BISHOPS in Rome, in session until today. In a letter to all families, Pope Francis invited them to pray for the Synod of Bishops, saying: May we all then pray together so that through these events the Church will undertake a true journey of discernment and adopt the necessary pastoral means to help families face their present challenges with the light and strength that comes from the Gospel. NEXT WEEKEND THE DIOCESE IS OBSERVING THE FLORIDA CATHOLIC SUBSCRIPTION WEEKEND to highlight the importance of Catholic media in advancing the Church s mission to bring the Gospel to all. Catholic Communication is important! Subscribe next weekend to The Florida Catholic, and see for yourself how important The Good News can be for your family! NEXT SUNDAY WE WILL COLLECT FOR CARITAS. There will be volunteers at the doors of the Church after each Mass collecting for the poor and the needy. Last month you dear parishioners donated $5,699. PLEASE BE GENEROUS again this month! Thank you. THE DIOCESAN MARRIAGE TRIBUNAL will host an information evening via video conferencing on November 5, from 6 to 8 pm, in the St. Martha Conference Room. If you have had a civil divorce, and wish to marry in the Catholic Church, you will be able to ask questions about the types of marriage cases being considered by the Tribunal. Please come and learn more about the process set forth by our Beloved Pope Francis. No reservations are required and ALL ARE WELCOME. TODAY, THE LAST SUNDAY OF OCTOBER, IS PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY, and is a special day set aside to honor the priesthood in the United States. It is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one. Please always remember your priests at St. Martha, and ALL priests in your prayers. DON T BE LATE FOR MASS NEXT WEEKEND Daylight Savings time ends early Sunday morning!! Turn your clocks back one hour on Saturday night and get one extra hour of sleep! (Use the envelopes in the pews or stop by the Parish office.) 2015 YEAR OF CONCECRATED LIFE St. Teresa of Avila was a woman of intense prayer. Her spiritual masterpiece, The Interior Castle, has brought many believers closer to the Lord through her description of prayer, contemplation and union with Jesus. What would the Church be without her? For one thing, we would never be comforted by what she counseled: Let nothing disturb you/let nothing frighten you/all things are passing away:/god never changes./ Patience obtains all things/whoever has God lacks nothing;/ God alone suffices. For more information, call Following the Way Most of us are accustomed to being called Christians that is, followers of Christ. However, the Lord s first followers were not called by that name at all. It was not until many years after His Crucifixion and Resurrection that the term Christian became popularly used. There is a subtle, yet profound reference and statement in today s Gospel from St. Mark, a reading which presents to us the healing of a blind man. After Jesus has responded to the blind man s calls for mercy and healing, and the Lord has told him that it was his faith which has saved him, the Gospel tells us the former blind man immediately recovered his sight and followed Him (Jesus) on the way. What is noteworthy about this is that at that time and for the first years after Jesus Resurrection, His disciples were called followers of the way. They recognized Jesus as the way to live and the way to salvation. (Jesus stated more than once, I am the way. ) Thus, the man became not just healed, but a follower of Jesus. Jesus healed the man on His way from Jericho to Jerusalem, where He would be crucified. The man most likely was with Him all the way. Would we be willing to follow the Lord on such a journey? That is what He is asking us to do. from the CatholicSteward.com Trigésimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 25 de octubre de 2015 Estábamos alegres, pues ha hecho grandes cosas por su pueblo el Señor. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
