We are looking for ministers to volunteer for Sunday morning. The residents look forward to Sunday Communion, and someone to talk to for just a few minutes. As Pope Francis said: Where there is no honor to the elderly, there is no future for the young. Please contact Deacon Kevin McKenney at or kevinmckenney55@comcast.net Pray the Rosary: therosary3.com
3 O CTOBER 18, 2015 From Our Pastor, Fr. Fausto... My Dear Friends, LAST SUNDAY WE CONTEMPLATED THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSSES God gives us when He finds us worthy of being crucified with Him, so to reach a more intimate relationship with Him. In today s Gospel, it is apparent that Jesus message had fallen onto deaf ears! Instead of an acceptance of the cross, we find the apostles fighting to climb the social ladder in the new Messianic kingdom, which they conceive as a purely human one, akin to the Roman Empire, or to the old Davidic glorious kingdom. Notice then Jesus warning on what it means to be a leader in the Kingdom of God: Whoever wants to rank first among you must serve the needs of all. The ministers of the church must serve the people of God unselfishly, putting the needs of the people ahead even of their personal lives and fortunes! That preference for the people of God expresses itself in celibacy, and in the three vows of poverty, chastity and obedience of monks, friars, nuns, sisters and clerics; such preference is clearly manifested in the famous Roman saying: Salus animarum suprema lex esto. The supreme law (of the Catholic Church) is the salvation of souls. TODAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY. Every year something special happens on the next-to-last Sunday of October the world unites. On World Mission Sunday, Catholics of the world unite at Mass to recommit ourselves to our vocation, through Baptism, to be missionaries. Prayers are needed, especially for our good missionaries laboring under duress in Communist nations (like China), or under persecutions (especially in strict Muslim countries, like Sudan). Make special sacrifices today for them, so that God will give them the joy and strength to carry out the evangelization of the world. Also, in our good U.S.A., we need to evangelize the people that have no faith in God, and live as if God doesn t exist! Also, let us lend God our mouths to invite back home our Catholic sisters and brothers who have left in anger, depression or in a canonically irregular marriage. God is love. His presence is alive in any loving human situation! There are over 80 Home Missions Diocese in the United States. These dioceses are unable to fund essential pastoral work, such as religious education, seminarian formation and lay ministry training. Because of this, they struggle to serve the unique needs of their communities. Through your support, the Catholic Home Mission Appeal helps to ease the needs of their communities. Please help strengthen the Church at home by giving generously to this appeal. LAST WEEK WE ANNOUNCED THAT OUR CARITAS CENTER will be moving across Fruitville Road, near Bethesda House. However, it will take a little longer than we expected to obtain the necessary permits needed from the City Planning Commission; therefore, the mobile facility will stay until sometime in November. The temporary location in Geenen Hall has been postponed until a later date as well. Remember, we still need volunteers during those two hours. Caritas volunteers meet in the St. Martha Conference Room on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 pm; Tony Cocco and Br. Tom Flanagan are in charge and you can reach them by calling Sara in the parish office. LET S CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR THE SYNOD OF BISH- OPS in Rome, in session until October 25. In a letter to all families, Pope Francis invited them to pray for the Synods of Bishops, saying: May we all then pray together so that through these events the Church will undertake a true journey of discernment and adopt the necessary pastoral means to help families face their present challenges with the light and strength that comes from the Gospel. Smile, God loves you and so does Fr. Fausto with your St. Martha s priests: Frs. Patrick, Wojciech, Sebastian, Philip & Jerry; Deacons Bill, Patrick, & Kevin; Brs. Bill, Tom, Paul & Lawrence and Srs. If not, you should consider getting involved from a number of perspectives. In today s Gospel, Jesus tells us, and it is something He wants us to understand and pursue as a goal, For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve. Service, giving of ourselves, is at the focal point of stewardship. Genuine ministry is done and offered for the assistance and aid of those to whom one is ministering, not for the advantage of the one who is ministering. When we join a ministry, whether it is liturgical, service or spiritually supporting, although we certainly receive advantages from it, the reality is that we should do it because of the help and lift we can give to others. It s about what we give, not what we receive. Jesus was a man of great humility. It is this humility to which we need to strive. This is not simple in our society. However, as the noted author and apologist, C. S. Lewis, once said: Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less. That is our challenge as Christian stewards to put others before ourselves both in reality and in our hearts. With God all things are possible. from the CatholicSteward.com Vigésimo Noveno Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 18 de octubre de 2015 Con sus sufrimientos justificará mi siervo a muchos. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
