5 St. Joseph s Parish is celebrating its 150 th Anniversary this year!!! Timothy Cardinal Dolan will celebrate the 5:00pm Mass on November 17, 2018 HOLY WEEK 2018 Palm Sunday: At each Mass we join in the same cry, proclaiming Jesus as the one obedient unto death, even to death on the cross. Tenebrae (Latin for "shadows" or "darkness") is a service celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. The distinctive ceremony of Tenebrae is the gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and psalms is chanted or recited. Holy Thursday: 9:00 a.m. Tenebrae will be chanted. The 6:30 liturgy will be sung by our combined music ministry. Tonight, we begin the liturgy of the Paschal Triduum, which commemorates the living memorial of the institution of the Eucharist. The Gloria is sung, Jesus bends down to wash the feet of all disciples, to perform the Mandatum the Eucharist according to John s Gospel. Good Friday: 9:00 a.m. Tenebrae will be chanted. The Choir will sing and chant for the Three-Hour Devotion (Stations of the Cross, reflection on the Seven Last Words of Christ and the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Good Friday service.) Easter Vigil: 9:00 a.m. Tenebrae will be chanted. The Saturday 8:00 p.m. liturgy will be sung by our combined music ministry. A robust fire, a large candle and lots of readings: we go from the dawn of creation to the dawn of Christ, to the new day. The candle is dated, blessed and praised; it is eucharisted over. Easter Sunday: Sung Masses at 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Alleluia! Our praise word has been silent for forty days. Our responsorial psalms, interspersed throughout the Easter Vigil and sung at every Mass, dance with the opportunity to give praise to the One who keeps all promises. Alleluia! 463 St. Joseph Church Page 5
