3 Dear Parishioners, In a homily given on Christmas Eve in 2002, Pope Saint John Paul II said, On this Holy Night the ancient promise is fulfilled: the time of waiting has ended and the Virgin gives birth to the Messiah. Jesus is born for a humanity searching for freedom and peace; he is born for everyone burdened by sin, in need of salvation, and yearning for hope. On this night, God answers the ceaseless cry of the peoples: Come, Lord, save us! His eternal Word of love has taken on our mortal flesh. Your Word, O Lord, came down from his royal throne. The Word has entered into time: Emmanuel, God-with-us, is born. My prayer for each of you, all the members of your family, and your friends is to receive the peace, love and hope that our Lord pours out to us at this time. As we approach the New Year, my hope is that together we can continue to be a haven for God s love, grace and hope so that more people can encounter Christ in a deeper way. May we never give in to discouragement or doubt, but rather renew our trust in God and His promise. He is faithful. He loves us. And He reaches out to save us. 5 GRACE Group January 10th begins the new Series - Walking Toward Eternity: Daring to Walk the Walk by Jeff Cavins. Walking Toward Eternity is an inspiring series designed to help participants live their faith more fully. Through daily prayerful meditation with Scripture (lectio divina), they will be drawn into an intimate and life-changing encounter with Christ. WOW! That question definitely caused us to really reflect. Would we have Him over to dinner? Would we decorate our houses differently? Do we have an Advent wreath and a Nativity displayed? Would we go over and welcome Him into the neighborhood? How would the way we are living our life today change, knowing that Jesus was right next door? These are powerful questions, but so important to our Catholic faith. We invite all of our ASCS families to have a serious reflective conversation this week. Why would we live our life one way and then change just because Jesus moved in next door? John the Baptist was not the only one God asked to spread the Word of God and tell people to prepare. Christ honored humanity by humbly taking on our human condition. Allow yourself and your spouse to be human today; even to make mistakes. The wait is almost over. Christmas eve is a long and often hectic 24 hours for many families. Take five minutes today to be quiet, to ponder with Mary the miracle of new life, to give the gift of your non-anxious presence to your family.
