SAVIOUR CHURCH? Are you a sinner? Have you been away from the church for a long time? Are you divorced or separated? Are you physically or mentally challenged? Are you from a different culture? Are you not accepted because of your sexual orientation? Are you elderly, a teen or young adult? Are you discriminated against because of your color? Are you feeling broken? Are you poor or out of work? Have you been imprisoned? Have you a feeling that you are left out? You are welcome here! This is your home, and we are your family!

2 October 28, 2018 October 21 Offertory $5, Attendance 500 A FEW WORDS FROM OUR PASTOR The month of November has always been a month of remembrance. We remember all those men and women whose lives of holiness and dedication to the Lord have earned them the title of saint on the Solemnity of All Saints. We remember all those men and women in or lives who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith on the Feast of All Souls. In a few weeks, we will pause and give thanks to Almighty God for our ancestors who risked much in order to come to America and be able to freely worship God when we celebrate Thanksgiving. Throughout this month of remembrance take some time to pause and reflect on these three celebrations of faith. Who among the Communion of Saints has inspired you to lead a life of holiness and dedication to the Lord? While many of the saints were not perfect they did try their best to remain faithful to both Jesus and the Gospel. Perhaps we too can imitate the saints in their dedication to God and in their desire to bring Christ s message of love and salvation to all people. Who were some of the special people in your life who have passed on to eternal life? In what ways have they inspired you to be a better person not only for yourself, but for God and for others? We never forget those we love. While they may no longer be with us physically here on earth it doesn t mean we forget about them completely. They will always remain in our hearts and memories two things that no one can take away from us. Remember those special people in your life who have passed away in prayer. Prayers can be quite powerful. Finally, what are some of the things in this life that you are most thankful for? Do you ever take any of those things for granted? Life is precious and far too short. We need to take these special opportunities given to us to simply say thanks. I often think many people have forgotten even how to say those two simple words thank you. Always remember, thanks is a word worth repeating each and every time we receive a special blessing from both our God and the many special people in our lives. So during this month of remembrance remember those holy men and women of the church who have inspired us by their holiness; those people in our own lives who have left us and passed on to eternal life; and the ability to say thank you for all the graces and blessings received in this past year. MUST be certified through the diocesan Program VIRTUS: PROTECTING GOD S CHILDREN. In an effort to accommodate all our ministers, we will be offering the Virtus Training Workshop here at Saint Saviour Saturday morning, November 3 in the Parish Hall. We will gather together for Mass at 8:30 a.m. in church and then we will move to the Parish Hall. If you with to continue in your ministry here at Saint Saviour, you MUST ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP. If you are unable to join us on November 3, you may register online to take this workshop elsewhere on another date. However, please be aware that if you are not Virtus trained by November 18, you will not be allowed to continue serving as a minister here at Saint Saviour until you have completed your Virtus training. Registration packets are available in the sacristy after all Masses this weekend. All ministers must take one home this weekend.

4 Brownbaggers Homeless Outreach The Brownbaggers project serves the poor in the NYC parks during the winter months. Since 2009 we have delivered thousands of lunches. Meeting monthly in the Parish Hall at 12:30 pm, we assemble 100 brown bag lunches with food and clothing items donated by our volunteers. We then travel via subway to multiple Manhattan parks to distribute our lunches to those most in need, returning to Brooklyn by 3:30 pm. John Olash is the current director of our Brownbaggers HomelessOutreach Program. Volunteers can reach John at: Please RSVP now for Sunday, November 11 Children under the age of 18 must to be accompanied by a parent. Please wear comfortable shoes and have your metro card charged. Twenty five volunteers are needed for this event. RSVP to: johnolash@hotmail.com Please consider donating warm socks, hats or gloves into the Brownbaggers Donation Box which will be located in the vestibule of the church after every Mass. Any donations received will be distributed at that month s Brownbagger event. Also, financial donations used to purchase food items can be made in the Parish rectory. Thank you for your support. 5 CALLING ALL PARISHIONERS!! Our parish will have a Flea market and Christmas Fair on Sunday, December 2nd from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. This event is a quick and easy fundraiser for the parish. In addition to the rental of tables to vendors, we will also have a church table that will feature donated items for sale to benefit the parish. If you have any NEW items at home, perhaps a gift you received but have no use for/or/something you purchased but never used, please consider donating that item for the church table. We are accepting all NEW items with the exception of clothes and books. No clothes or books please! Just bring these items to the Rectory during office hours and we will make them available for sale on December 2nd. With your help and generosity, this can be a successful fundraiser for our parish. Also, feel free to take a Flea Market and Christmas Fair Flyer available at the doors of the church and spread the word throughout the neighborhood about this event! 50/50 ENVELOPES Effective immediately, we are changing the way our monthly 50/50 is conducted. In the past, the only people who could participate were those persons who received monthly envelopes and the drawing was held in the middle of the month. Sadly, the same 18 people participated each month. NO MORE. Now we are opening up the monthly 50/50 Drawing to the entire parish. Purple 50/50 envelopes are available at the front doors to the church. Simply take an envelope (or as many envelopes as you d like), fill them out, place your $10.00 offering in each envelope and then drop them in the Sunday offering collection. We will collect them throughout the month and on the last day of each month, we will have the drawing in the Rectory, announce the winner, and then split the total amount collected 50/50 50% for the parish and 50% for the lucky winner. Remember the old expression, you have to be in it to win it, so take a chance (and a purple 50/50 envelope) and try your luck. The more people who participate, the greater the prize money for both the parish and the lucky winner!

In that spirit, we invite you to inscribe the names of those you wish for us to remember and pray for on All Souls Day and during the Masses throughout the month of November on the special All Souls Remembrance Envelopes found in the vestibule of the Church and near the side doors. Please join them in offering prayers for all who have been affected or suffer as a result of this scandal.
