RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM Classes are held at our Port Vue site for Grades K-8 on Sundays from 9:30am 10:45am, September through May. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Engaged couples are to participate in a Marriage Preparation Class. Please contact our Administration Center six months prior to the anticipated wedding date. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptisms are the 1 st Sunday and 3 rd Sunday of the month after the 11:00am Mass. Pre-Baptism Class is required. Total Assessment: $73, Total Paid: $38, Donations to Parish Share are not assessed as income for the parish. Also, once we meet our assessment, anything above that amount is ours to keep (again, non-assessed income). Please be generous! Thank you!!! Christian Mothers Annual Picnic The Christian Mothers annual picnic is at the Lincoln Borough Building on Monday, 11 August, at 6:00PM. Offering for the Little Sisters of the Poor The Little Sisters of the Poor will be with us at all of our Masses next weekend, 9/10 August, to seek your financial support for their ministry to the elderly poor. This year, more than ever, we are counting on your continued support! Your generosity helps to provide for the needs of the elderly at their home on Benton Avenue in Pittsburgh. Please give generously! Thank you! Eternal Rest For the repose of the souls of Millie Walk, Joan Uhrin and Donald Puckey, brother of Pam Pucky of our parish. We extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to our families and friends. Vacation Bible School SUCCESS!!! The Holy Spirit is ALIVE and THRIVING at Saint Mark Parish! The success of our 2014 Vacation Bible School Circus of the SON is a true testament to the vibrancy of our Parish family. Over 60 children experienced our theme TRUST IN THE LORD through skits, music, crafts, snacks, games and Bible stories. We also were blessed with over 65 volunteers who nurtured our little ones by serving Christ and sharing their talents as teachers, snack ladies, aides, skit crew, and VBS team members. Throughout the week we encouraged the children to do chores and acts of kindness at home and in our community to help raise money for a local family in need. This year we were able to raise a large donation for the Bret Bittner family. Bret called me this past week to express his gratitude for the monetary donation and PRAYERS. Please continue to pray for Bret s recovery. All of this could not have been possible without the efforts of our VBS Director Julie Fleckenstein and our VBS team. I truly am blessed to serve as the Director of Religious Education at such an amazing Parish with parishioners who give of themselves for the sake of others so freely. A heartfelt THANK YOU to ALL!! Taking them wherever you go, checking them all the time, turning around and going back to get them once you realized you ve forgotten, and looking for messages throughout the day! - Scott Hahn Golden Wedding Celebration Sunday, 12 October 2014 The Diocese of Pittsburgh is once again planning its annual Golden Wedding Celebration for couples who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The event begins at 2:30PM with Mass at Saint Paul Cathedral. Bishop Zubik is the main celebrant. A reception follows in the lower hall at the Cathedral. If you are celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary in 2014, and would like to receive an invitation to this event, please contact our Parish Administration Center or drop a note in our offertory basket no later than Sunday, 10 August Thank you!

4 EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 3 AUGUST 2014 Festival SUCCESS! Saint Mark Parish SUCCESS!!! Praise the Lord! And THANK YOU! For all who helped to make our FESTIVAL a huge success, I praise the Lord and I thank you! With God s help, and your loving SELF-SACRIFICE and TEAMWORK, we managed to come together as ONE for the sake of our Saint Mark Parish family. Praise GOD!!! The festival is truly an amazing and tremendous endeavor! While we all experienced some challenges and difficulties, we managed to work together with God s grace and the support and initiative of so many generous and loving parishioners. Your love and leadership, collaboration and coordination, time and tireless efforts are always overwhelming! May God bless you all with a profound experience of His mighty and tender love and may that experience give you the courage, strength and humility necessary to continue our heroic work and daily sacrifices to help bring enhanced life, joy and vibrancy to our parish family and entire community for many years to come. Ultimately, SUCCESS with our FESTIVAL and in every aspect of our PARISH is because of YOU evidence that when we WORK TOGETHER, as ONE BODY in CHRIST, it is easier and better for everyone, and we all benefit. 5 SAINT MARK PARISH To live our Faith, we need to know our Faith! MCKEESPORT, PA " They called the Church together and reported what GOD had done with them and how He had opened the door of faith..." (Acts of the Apostles 14:27) What is the RCIA? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a way for adults Who would like to learn more about and/or become a member of the Catholic Church. Who have never been baptized or have been baptized in another faith and are interested in the Catholic Church. Who are Baptized Catholics (over 18 years old) and have not received the Sacraments of Confirmation, Eucharist or Reconciliation. The experience of learning with other adults in a relaxed atmosphere has been a lifetime high point for many who have been a part of the RCIA in the past. There is no charge and, of course, no tests. Moreover, those making this RCIA Journey of Faith are accompanied by members of the parish family team, some of whom attend each week with them.
