Jesus knew there is always enough when we place our trust in the Father, even with just 5 loaves and fishes. Trust is the bridge of miracles.

4 Page four Dear Padre, Now that I m retired and my kids are grown I m feeling directionless. Even my faith life doesn t feel like it used to. How can I recapture a feeling of purposefulness in my faith? People may long for liberation from their job and for an empty nest at home; yet, when some find it, they lose a clear sense of identity, purpose, or fulfillment. This loss can lead to depression, but many people are unable to name it or cope with these life-changing realities. Is getting through the day more exhausting than a full day s work before your retirement? Do you prefer to live in the past? Are you burdened with lingering feelings of guilt or regret that need healing? Do you feel like a burden? What are your reasons for living? Faith and spirituality are connected to the physical, mental, and emotional dimensions of our life. It is often easier to recapture vitality in faith when we recapture a purpose in other dimensions of life. Volunteer for a worthy cause. Balance your active outreach with introspection. Go on a retreat and reflect on what you re grateful for. Your relationship with the Lord in prayer may be affected by your lack of direction and purpose, but even a persistent emptiness in prayer can be an opportunity to have God fill the void by focusing more on God than on what s presently lacking in your life. by focusing more on God than on what s presently lacking in your life. Byron Miller, CSsR FOLLOW ME Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John Thursday Evenings September 21st to November16th St. Mary s Parish Center 7pm This eight-part Bible Study features Dr. Edward Sri Following Christ takes more than simply believing in him or doing what he asks of us. Jesus wants you to be more than just a believer-he wants you to be his disciple and friend. This is an invitation to experience the joy of a renewal friendship with Christ. A goodwill donation of $20 would be appreciated to help defray the costs of the books.. Please call the Parish Office ( ) to register by August 22nd So that supplies can be ordered or you can Julie at JULMCC5197@AOL.COM In the first reading, the Prophet Daniel observes the Ancient One on his throne, to whom is presented one like a Son of Man who will receive everlasting dominion. The second reading reminds us that Jesus is the beloved son of the Father. In the Gospel, Jesus takes Peter, James and John up the mountain when he is transfigured. The disciples then see Moses and Elijah conversing with him. The word of the Lord is something we hear in church, perhaps without giving it much thought. Peter and Daniel both remind us that the words of Jesus we hear in Scripture are none other than the words of the beloved on of the Ancient One, who is the Most High over all the earth. We would do well to pay close attention to these words. Our annual HOPE APPEAL continues here in the parish. The Hope Appeal is a support to our hospital chaplains; our Newman chaplains on our college campuses; the good work of Catholic Charities and the Faith Formation programs. There are so many works of the Lord done in our diocese with the support of the Hope Appeal. We are in need of twenty-four thousand dollars to reach our parish goal. So if you have not responded as of today, please consider a gift to this year s Hope Appeal. We all have been blessed with many gifts from our Lord and now is our opportunity to thank the Lord by our gift to the Hope Appeal. I thank you for your gracious and generous gift to this year s annual and important appeal. We are in need of workers for the Snack Bar at Bingo on Friday night. I am grateful for all our volunteers at Bingo, but we still need more to keep us going. The Snack Bar is a wonderful service for all our players, so please consider giving us one Friday night a month. See me! Gratefully, Fr. Hearn

5 Page 5 St. Mary s St. Peters Church Altar Rosary Society Dear Parishioners: August 6, 2017 Most importantly please keep in mind our organization would not be fruitful were it not for the support and generosity of our parishioners. THANK YOU!! The Altar Rosary Society begins the season Thursday, September 21, 6pm in the church hall. It s time we set aside not only to discuss our projects but to enjoy each others company along with a covered dish dinner occasionally followed by a guest speaker. Our meetings are held the 3 rd Thursday monthly from September May [No meetings in Jan or Feb]. We invite all woman parishioners & their friends to attend our meetings as we value your participation in an important role of service to our church. In our season we raised several hundred dollars. We were able to contribute $ to our church, gift our Christmastime, and whatever expenses occurred to maintain our organization obligations. Last season our projects consisted of: Altar cleaning / maintaining altar linens Bi-annual bake sales / October and May Reception host for Celebration of Life & Remembrance and Veterans Day / November Annual parish Christmas the Franklin Hotel / December [Venue varies] Religious article - breads sale / December Parish Mission host / February Other fundraisers: Smart Shopper Coupon Books Quilt Raffle Fourth of July Basket Raffle / Back To School Backpack Raffle St. Mary s / St. Peter s note cards This year we sponsored 2 catered dinners with tickets a minimal cost strictly for the enjoyment of all our parishioners. The only profit ARS made was seeing our parishioners enjoy a great meal & great company, which was priceless!! We made arrangements with Eddie s Paramount Diner to cater an outstanding Thanksgiving dinner & in March an outstanding Irish corned beef dinner including live Irish music. We were honored to host the following informative guest speakers: Mathew Varughese, YES Development (Contracting company for the old city hall) Briana Brognano, Pharmacist Rome Memorial Hospital, explained benefits available Malinda Abrahan, Historian, spoke of the early days of Rome Sr. Maureen Denn, CSJ, encouragement in the spiritual life and Compassion Please consider attending one of our meetings to see what we are all about and bring your ideas and talent to our organization.
