In families there are those who don t live up to our expectations. Imitate the gardener and give them more time and help. Don t cut them out of your life. Love asks us to be connected, not productive. During March we Honor St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church, the husband of the Virgin Mary, the Foster Father of Jesus. The Sisters of St. Joseph honor St. Joseph as the patron of their community. We also know he is Patron of a happy death.

4 Page Four ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY On March 21st, our St. Patrick s Day Dinner was well attended. Everyone enjoyed the meal and it was a great time meeting socially as a parish family. Thank you to all who attended this occasion and enjoyed it. Our April Meeting is scheduled for April 4th. Please plan to attend. We will be preparing for the Palm Sunday weekend BAKE SALE and discussing the year end events before our summer break. The date to tour the renovations of the City Hall will be announced soon. Coming after Easter will be our Spring raffle. The theme is BBQ. Details to follow you won t want to miss your chance on this BBQ raffle as it will be very impressive. Cate Powers, who is directing the Knitting and Crochet group received several thank you notes from the students and teachers at RFA who received the hats, mittens, etc., made by the committee. Theme: EXULT: Oh God be merciful to me a Sinner Register on line at Jesus calls us to repent so that we might bear good fruit. In the first reading from Exodus, God speaks to Moses from the burning bush, announcing his presence as the God of his father, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In Saint Paul s Letter to the Corinthians, he speaks of the Old Testament ancestors, many with whom God was not pleased. In today s Gospel, the crowd tells Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate mingled with their sacrifices. Jesus calls them to repentance and tells them a parable of the fig tree that produces no fruit. God s ways are not our ways. In order to bear good fruit, we must allow him to shape and mold our lives. This was not a new message that Jesus shared, but an affirmation of the covenant that God made with his people from the beginning. God is faithful - and so we are called to be. When we stray and wither or produce bad fruit, we have the opportunity to repent and try again. May this third week of Lent be a special time of God s grace for you and your loved ones! They have been given in memory of her loving husband Patrick Burns on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. We are grateful for this marvelous gift. A little smile - - After the Mass, little Billy said to the Deacon, When I grow up, I m going to give you some money. My daddy says your one of the poorest preachers we ve ever had. The Ladies Society will be selling its new cookbook at the church supper this Wednesday night. The proceeds will help purchase a stomach pump for our community hospital. 5 Page Five Dear Padre, Is the sprinkling rite at Mass necessary? Occasionally on Sundays and Saturday evenings, especially in the Easter season and on feasts including Pentecost or the Baptism of the Lord, the blessing and sprinkling of water may take the place of the customary Penitential Act as a reminder of baptism. While the Penitential Act invites us to acknowledge our sins, the sprinkling rite not only reminds us of our failings but of our conversion through baptism. Water is blessed before the sprinkling using these or similar words: Grant, O Lord, in your mercy, that living waters may always spring up for our salvation, and so may we approach you with a pure heart and avoid all danger of body and soul (The Roman Missal). If salt a symbol of strength is added to the water, it s first blessed in a prayer to God who commanded the prophet Elisha to cast salt into water, that impure water might be purified (RM). Also, the Church empties holy water fonts on the days of the Triduum to prepare for the blessing of water at the Easter Vigil, but removing holy water fonts during the season of Lent isn t permitted. To do so is contrary to a balanced understanding of the season of Lent, which though truly being a season of penance, is also a season rich in the symbolism of water and baptism, constantly evoked in liturgical texts (Congregation for Divine Worship). After all, every Sunday, even during Lent, is a little Easter! Fr. Byron Miller, CSsR We celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation of our Lord on March 25th when the Angel announced to Mary that she would be the mother of God. Pope Francis Speaks to FAMILIES!! We Belong to One Family What is God s plan? It is to make us all a single family of his children, in which each person feels that God is close and feels loved by him; as in the Gospel parable (of the prodigal son), feels the warmth of being God s family. The Church is rooted in this great plan. She is not an organization established by an agreement between a few people, but as Pope Benedict XVI has so often reminded us she is a work of God, born precisely from this loving design which is gradually brought about in history. The Church is born from God s wish to call all people to communion with him, to friendship with him; indeed, to share in his own divine life as his sons and daughters. The very word church, from the Greek ekklesia, means convocation ; God convokes us, he impels us to come out of our individualism, from our tendency to close ourselves into ourselves, and he calls us to belong to his family. Call for more info and to register call The Good News Center is hosting a brand new dance competition called Shall We Dance? As a replacement for Dance the Night Away this event is an actual dance competition. There is a $250 grand prize of each of the two age categories, years and 20 and up Duets only are able to register. Competitors are asked to submit a video of one minute in length. Dance instructors will select the best in the two age categories and those will compete on stage at the new Msgr. Willenburg Center at Notre Dame High School on March 30th. To enter, submit the video on a flash drive along with a nonrefundable $25 entry fee. ADORATION of the Blessed Sacrament AT TRANSFIGURATION Church Chapel Adoration times will be from 6 am to 9 pm with 2 adorers required for each hour.
