GREETERS With the 11:30 am Mass being eliminated as of July 1, a meeting has been scheduled for June 20th at 6 pm in the Church Hall to discuss this change and how it relates to the Mass you will now attend and your ability to continue in this very important ministry. Anyone interested in joining this ministry is welcome to attend the meeting and join in on the discussion. Call Toni at REMINDER When someone is sick and homebound, please let us know. The Sisters would love to pay them a visit and bring them Holy Communion.
4 Page Four Dear Padre, Does a Saturday wedding Mass count for Sunday obligation? Your question is frequently asked of priests, so it s good to help clarify this matter. If you attend Mass anywhere in a Catholic rite either on Sunday or in the evening of the preceding day, then the obligation is satisfied (Canon 1248). Evening is generally understood in most dioceses as anytime from 4 pm onward. Thus, an afternoon Mass (wedding or otherwise) before 4 pm on Saturday is not an evening Mass and doesn t fulfill the obligation. Moreover, if Mass is celebrated in a Catholic rite after 4 pm on Saturday, the Sunday obligation is satisfied regardless if the scriptural texts differ from those of the Sunday or holy day (Canon 1248 commentary). A related question often asked of priests is whether Communion may be received more than once a day. Any eligible Catholic can receive Communion a second time on the same day only within the Eucharistic celebration in which the person participates (Canon 917). A second time doesn t mean repeatedly. On those in danger of death, or priests who celebrate Mass, can receive Communion a third time in one day. This law is intended to promote a full sharing in the Lord s Body and Blood, while preventing the abuse of receiving multiple Communions out of misguided devotion. Fr. Byron Miller, CSsR KNITTING AND CROCHETING GROUP St. Mary s/st. Peter s Altar Rosary Society are forming a group to Knit and Crochet hats, mittens and scarves for the local school children. In today s first reading the author presents a profound understanding of the Creator s chosen way of relating to his creatures: He does not remain aloof, but strolls in the garden and personally speaks with the humans. Evan after their sin God does not leave man and woman alone, but approaches them. The consciousness of their nudity betrays the couple s guilt, and they pretend to escape condemnation by shifting blame. Adam blames Eve, who blames the serpent, who provided incentive for the disobedience, God will punish all three, taking no account of their blame shifting, and the punishment will be twofold for the humans: The weariness of existence and the perennial battle with the seductive influence of the evil one. Human nature will have to await the coming of Christ who, by the gift of the Holy Spirit, will restore human integrity. Each of the three punishments for snake, woman, and man has double result: on affecting the individual and the other affecting a basic relationship. The humans responses can be seen as a consequences of achieving autonomy; the man is afraid, insecure and ashamed; he tries to justify himself and deflect the blame onto God for giving him the woman and onto the woman for offering him the fruit. This story touches marriage and sexuality; human and nonhuman; human and God. Every relationship has been disrupted. The harmony of the garden had been ruptured and death encroached on life. CONNECT WITH CHRIST This weekend, June 9th and 10th, we are taking up the collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). Your support helps the CCC connect people to Christ, here and around the world, through the internet, television, radio and print media. Half of the funds we collect remain in the Diocese of Syracuse to support communication efforts across our seven-county diocese. Thank you for your continued support.

For our Auction we are asking if you choose to do so, to bring a wrapped item not to exceed $5.00 in value. It s fun evening so please consider joining us Pope Francis Speaks to Families! MAKE TIME TO REST IN PRAYER Rest is so necessary for the health of our minds and bodies, and often so difficult to achieve due to the many demands placed on us. But rest is essential for our spiritual health, so that we can hear God s voice and understand what he asks of us. Joseph was chosen by God to be the foster father of Jesus and the husband of Mary. As Christians, you too are called, like Joseph, to make a home for Jesus. To make a home for Jesus! You make a home for him in you hearts, your families, you parishes, and your communities. To hear and accept God s call, to make a home for Jesus, you must be able to rest in the Lord. You must make time each day to rest in the Lord. But you may say to me: Holy Father, I know that; I want to pray, but there is so much work to so! I must care for my children; I have chores in the home; I am too tired even to sleep well. I know. This may be true, but if we do not pray, we will not know the most important of all; God s will for us. And for all our activity, our busyness, without prayer we will accomplish very little. Knights of Columbus next meeting Thursday, June 14th at 7 pm 112 Ridge Street. The Knights are looking for interested males over 18 to join and help us support for area churches and community. Summer Kick off BBQ To help Rescue Mission June 14th At the Toccolana Club from 4 PM to 7 pm To benefit their shelter and meal program $11 pp for pulled pork or sausage, etc. Music, raffles and more!!!! The Father s Day Envelopes with intentions for our fathers will be on the Altar for the month of June. ENRICHING THE CHURCH Pastoral Letter on the Role of the Family in the life of the Church of Syracuse and Beyond Many modern families today view Sunday Mass as a burden, something to get out of the way, something that does not speak to them or out of which they get nothing. The truth is that we were created by God to worship Him. Going to Mass is not about us our entertainment, our busy schedules, etc. It is about God. Yet, it becomes about us because God so generously sanctifies us and builds us up when we gather together to praise him.
