4 Page Four Dear Padre, A priest recently said the Scriptures should set us free. I wish this could happen to me! I feel so trapped by life. My job, my kids, my aging parents, bills, health insurance. Everywhere I turn I m cornered by responsibilities. How can Scripture help? Many of us feel trapped by life. Life is complicated because often there is too much to do, too many obligations, too much going on. We feel burdened and many times even guilty that we re not doing more. There s never enough time. People are demanding and sometimes hurt our feelings. We can easily become victims of it all. Or we can become defensive, aggressive, or overly people pleasing. I invite you to pray the Scriptures daily. Open yourself to the Spirit s movement that s alive in the word and alive in you. Read a short passage. Think about it. Put yourself into the scene. Picture yourself listening to Jesus speak. Allow him to use your name. Let yourself be comforted, loved, freed, healed, and challenged to change your hectic pace in life. Instead of trying to control all that happens, begin to surrender and trust in God. The word of God can lead us to freedom if only we open our hearts to the wisdom it contains. It will probable lead you to prayer, to ask for God s help. You may find your heart opening to receive the love of God you encounter in the word. Remember, Jesus said, Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it (Luke 11:28). From THE CENTER AT AVA DORFMAN Men s Breakfast Buddies Club. God is pleased when we give thanks for all of our blessings. Today we will take time to offer thanks. We will begin with Mass, and then enjoy a turkey dinner with all the fixin s. Celebrant and Homilist: Father John Rose. Mass at 11:30 am offering $15. TREE OF LIGHTS Honor or memorialize a loved one with the purchase of a light on the Rome Memorial Hospital Tree of Lights. A $5.00 donation per name will help buy equipment for the hospital. Send checks to Rome Twigs at Rome Memorial Hospital. I want to thank Mark Domenico for his drawing of the plans for the new lavatory in the front vestibule of the church. I also want to thank our marvelous and creative maintenance staff Mark LaGasse and Steve Sidway, who executed the plans to build a most beautiful room to compliment the beauty of our church. It is handicap accessible! In the first reading from the Book of Malachi, God sternly warns the priests that their behavior is leading his people astray, and that they must change their ways or risk his wrath. The second reading finds Saint Paul giving thanks that the people to whom he preached have taken the word of God to heart and put it into practice. In the Gospel, Jesus warns the people not to follow their earthly leaders down the path to destruction, but instead to lead lives of humble service to one another. A good leader is not self-seeking, but always has the best interests of his followers at heart. A poor leader thinks only of himself and what he has to gain from his position of authority. Leaders have the power to guide their followers to destruction or prosperity. Jesus is the model servantleader, humbling himself and serving all. In case you missed my column in last week s bulletin I will give you once again the update on our parish HOPE Appeal. I have heard from 359 (last week s bulletin had an incorrect figure) of our parishioners who have pledged $63, and in cash payments we have received $54, Our parish goal is $79, leaving us a balance of $16, Last year we took up a second collection and next weekend we will have a second collection to help off set the balance. I thank all of you for your kind generosity to our church. God bless You!

Do I pray for her? Do OI feel part of the family of the Church? What do I do to ensure that she is a community in which each one feels welcomed and understood, feels the mercy and love of God who renews life? Faith is a gift and an act which concern us personally, but God calls us to live with our faith together, as a family, as church. Let us ask the Lord...that our communities, the whole Church, be increasingly true families that live and bring the warmth of God. ST. PETER S CHURCH HISTORY Community Support Center Managing Life s Changes The Support Center offers a variety of services to help people cope with many of Life s changes. Services are available for adults, children, families and individuals. Have you experienced life changes. WE can help: Illness (Chronic or terminal) Death of a relative, friend or beloved pet A divorce or end of a love relationships Job loss Relocation. COUNSELING Our PROFESSIONAL STAFF have masters degrees in social work offering counseling. They specialize in issues that result from life changes. Counseling is available Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm and scheduled after hours when possible. EDUCATION Workshops and training are available for any group interested in helping with grief and loss. (Taken from Rome Sentinel October 26, 1897) Archbishop Martinelli, the Papal Delegate, of Washington DC, performs the Consecration Ceremonies according to the Ritual of the Roman Catholic Church The Consecration Sermon by Bishop McQuaid of Rochester, Sketches of the High Church Dignitaries, of Rev. Father Murphy, who built the Church, The Late Rev. Father Beecham, who founded the Parish of St. Peter s and was the Pioneer Priest of Central and Northern New York, and James Murphy, who gave the Magnificent Marble Altar.. The new St. Peter s Roman Catholic Church, at the corner of North James and East Park /streets, was consecrated on Sunday with appropriate ceremonies as laid down in the Catholic Ritual. The Consecration was conducted by Archbishop Martinelli, the papal delegate. Rev. William Beecham, who was the first pastor of St. Peter s Church, was born in Queens County, Ireland in His parents were then members of the Episcopal Church.
