Drought Relief At Parish Council it was decided that we should do something for drought relief, and agreed to a retiring collection taken up over the following weeks, 30 th Sept & 7 th Oct. It would be appreciated to keep this in mind. A collection will be taken up during the last hymn. Thanks in anticipation 3 Weeks to go!!!! To the Parish Fete 20 th October. We have agreed to have a quality clothing stall, so when you are sorting out your wardrobe, please keep this in mind. Also required are items for the Trash n Treasure, the spinning wheel, small items for children s lucky dip. It is not too late to offer your brilliant ideas for the Fete, please let us know, so that we can consider them. Please remember this is a Plastic Free Fete, and bring your own bags along. Boomerang Bags hope to be there so you can stock up on fabric bags. We will be looking for help with the stalls, setting up and dismantling. Please consider offering a few hours to help out. Anyone requiring goods to be picked up, please call Laurie/Lyn Johnston on to arrange a time. Pick ups will be done on the last week, before fete, ie Monday 15 th Oct - Friday 19 th Oct. Thank you. Parish Annual General Meeting 18 th November Please note this will be the only service in the parish. Please ensure that reports from all centres and organisations are handed/ ed/carrier pigeoned to the Parish Office or Margaret Gibson by 21 st October at the latest. Dear people of WWW, This Sunday is doubly special as we have our Bishop with us, and we celebrate St Michael and All Angels. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are the three named Biblical angels, depicted as the beloved messengers of God. Michael, which means Who is like God? is portrayed as protector of Israel and leader of the armies of God, and is perhaps best known as the slayer of the dragon in the Revelation to John. Michael thus came to be regarded as the protector of Christians from the devil, particularly those at the hour of death. Gabriel, which means The Strength of God is one, according to the Gospel of Luke, who is sent by God to Mary to announce the birth of Christ. Raphael, which means, The Healing of God, is depicted in the Book of Tobit (A great read by the way, found in the Apocrypha) as the one who restores sight to Tobit s eyes. A Basilica near Rome was dedicated in the fifth century in honour of Michael on 30 September, with celebrations beginning on the eve of that day, with the result that 29 th of September came to be observed as a feast in honour of Michael and all Angels throughout the Western Church.
