4 Page Four Dear Padre, I am troubled with doubts of faith and find these thoughts very frightening. Have I lost my faith? Please help me. It s not a sin to have these worries and doubts. I ve seen this kind of thing happen to very good, holy people. Some of the saints went through terrible periods of darkness when everything they believed in seemed to be gone. Saint Thérèse of Lisieux said several times that her faith seemed to have vanished, that her prayers seemed to be going nowhere. So you are not alone. Saint Alphonsus recommends that a person hounded by such doubts should not try to argue with them in the heat of battle, but rather should run away that is, make a brief act of faith and try moving on to something else, get involved in some distracting activity. Temptation or doubt will likely persist, but don t believe these dark feelings. The devil is the father of lies. He is trying to make you think you re lost when you re not. By making you upset and agitated, he keeps you from prayer and other good deeds. To sum up, when a doubt arises, say a short prayer such as My Lord, I believe in you, I hope in you, I love you. Once you ve said a little prayer, you can ignore the temptation even if it keeps roaring in your head. Remember that the Lord can read your heart and knows that you don t want to offend him, but rather to love him with your whole heart. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math are featured with Speakers and workshops. Nominate a student between the ages of years old to attend the Conference Call As believer, our strength lies in our relationship with Christ and not in our abilities or talents. Throughout the centuries many have speculated about Paul s thorn. Some have said it was a physical illness like recurring malaria, or an eye infection that impaired his vision. Others have postulated that it was a spiritual ailment like the pain of rejection or a demonic presence that constantly tested his faith and tempted him to sin. But whatever it was, and we shall never know, it caused Paul to be all the more dependent on Christ and in the words of today s psalm to keep his eyes fixed on the Lord. So maybe in the long run, it is best that we never know, otherwise we might miss the real reason of his sharing that in our times of struggle we might learn from him and seek refuge in Christ. It is inly when our courage, perseverance and fidelity are united with Christ and his mission that, like Paul and Ezekiel, we can humbly accept our own weaknesses and our need of God s grace and strength. Only then can we stand up more firmly grounded in our faith and in our relationship with Christ. Our HOPE APPEAL theme is WE ARE ALL CALLED TO SERVE. It is my hope that everyone will try their best to make a contribution to this most important appeal that helps so many people in our diocese. If you can not find an envelope to enclose your gift just use a plain envelope and put your name on the envelope. I believe that this appeal is so important for our diocesan church that I have made a sacrifice to give a gift of $ that I will pay through the year. I do not expect everyone to make this much of a sacrifice, but I pray that you might consider a gracious gift to this year s appeal. Please pray for this sick who are homebound or hospitalized. Let us pray also for vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Remember God Loves You and so do I.

5 Page Five ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY Good Buy & Bazaar is scheduled for October 20 and 21, 2018 in the Church Hall. Remember if you are Spring Cleaning to consider donating ort our sale. We will be accepting any gently used items, however, we cannot accept electronics of clothing. We will be establishing Drop Off dates for all donations in the near future/. If anyone needs to contact us prior to the established drop off dates please feel free to do so. At this time you can call Mary or any ARS member. Anyone wishing to donate homemade crafts is welcomed to do so. It would be greatly appreciated. July and August there are no meetings.. We are on Summer break. Value the Family The family stands at the center of society s hopes and struggles. With renewed conviction, the Church continues to encourage the commitment of all, individuals and institutions, in order to support the family, which si the primary place where the human being is formed and grows and where the upright values and examples are learned. The family needs stability and the recognition of its mutual bonds in order to carry out its irreplaceable task and to fulfill it mission. It needs to be appreciated, valued, and protected as it puts its energy at the service of society. ENRICHING THE CHURCH Pastoral Letter on the Role of the Family in the life of the Church Syracuse and Beyond For years, the Catholic bishops of the United States have called for just and comprehensive immigration reform. When I see what is happening, to our refugee community and to those seeking to enter our country today; to babies being separated from their parents; to dreamers; to good people who want only a better chance at live I wonder what has happened just to our religious and moral values but also to our American Standards and ideals. We need to make our voices hearts and we need to stand up for what is community. Let us nor be quiet as children are being taken from their parents.more that 2000 in the last six weeks, the media tells us.
