A communal celebration of the Sacrament of Anointing follows the 8:15 a.m. Mass on the first Saturday of the month. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Congratulations! Weddings are ordinarily celebrated on Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Please be sure to consult a priest before setting the date for your wedding. Deeply Grateful It is, once again, with sincere gratitude that on behalf of our parish Finance Committee I offer you this year s annual Stewardship Report. As always, I am deeply grateful to all who work so hard and who give so generously to enable us to do all that we do together in the Lord s name. We are and must continue to be a mission-driven parish that seeks to effectively bear witness to the Gospel and to gather people into God s Kingdom. Our finances are not an end in themselves, but a means to carrying out the important work to which the Lord calls us. In publishing this annual report it is always important to be reminded that stewardship is about much more than our financial giving. It is a humble acknowledgement that all that we have is a gift from God that has been given to us not simply for our own benefit, but for the benefit of others. Throughout the year we try to highlight and express our gratitude for the great efforts and talents of so many that give so generously of their time to serve in our parish ministries, organizations and activities. In this annual report we focus especially on the financial generosity of our people that enables us to carry out the work the Lord has given to us to accomplish in His name. A couple of highlights from this year s report for the fiscal year 7/1/17 thru 6/30/18: You will notice that the report also includes comparison information from both the previous year and 5 years ago. Thanks to all who responded to our call last year at this time to increase our weekly contributions. It is our life-blood. While our Christmas and Easter collections continue to hold very strong, our regular collections had begun to decline. That trend has reversed and we are blessed to see an increase in overall church revenue by $15,627. Thank you! At the same time we were able to reduce our overall church expenditures by nearly $35,000. Our salaries and benefits decreased as our long-time maintenance man, Bob DiSandro, retired and Brad Koenig stepped up to take on his responsibilities. Instead of hiring a new assistant we chose to out-source some of our needs (lawn mowing, snow plowing, etc.) resulting in an increase in maintenance and repair expenses. We also did not have an Associate Pastor. The overall savings came to about $40,000. Whereas last year, on an Operations basis, we ran a deficit of nearly $25,000, this year we ran at a surplus of nearly $26,000. As we completed our To Teach Who Christ Is campaign with our Phase III capital improvements (signage, church lighting and enhancements, etc.), our expenses grew, but they will continue to be offset as pledges are fulfilled over the remaining two years. We were very blessed, once again, to have other sources of income that have enabled us to still come out ahead overall in the amount of $193,399. We did this principally through lease income and especially donations and memorials together totaling $540,887. We are, of course, very grateful for these sources of revenue, but also realize that we cannot reasonably count on this extraordinary income each year. Thank you all, once again, for your generous stewardship. I am very grateful to all who contribute so much in so many ways to make our parish the great community of faith that it is. With this report I would especially like to thank our parish Finance Committee Members: Steve Dolan (Chair), Bob Callero, Ed Cameron, Gina Caruso, Isabel DuPont, and Marilyn Lauesen for their hard work and sage advice. I would also like to thank our Business Manager, Rich Gargul, who does such an excellent job managing our day to day financial obligations and preparing the necessary reports for our Finance Committee and the Archdiocese. 7 November 18, 2018 Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Seven REMINDER OUR LADY OF LOURDES WINTER CLOTHING AND BLANKET DRIVE Our annual winter clothing drive will be held on Wednesday, November 21 (day before Thanksgiving) at Our Lady of Lourdes. Our friends look forward to the many jackets, coats, sweaters, boots, gloves, scarves, etc. that we donate to them. We are also asking for clean warm blankets. Many of the needy guests live in shelters and are given one thin blanket. As the colder weather is here, please be thinking about helping those who are less fortunate. NOTE: Drivers are needed November 21 to bring the clothing to the school at 4641 N. Ashland in Chicago. You do not need to stay - just drop off the clothing at the lower level. Blessings! We can t do it without your help! The need is always great -- please consider taking an ornament (or two). SNOWMAN names a girl/woman from St. Mary of Providence ANGEL names a child from St. Malachy or Precious Blood TREE names a homebound person of OLR No donations of cash or checks, please!
