3 December 2, 2018 First Sunday of Advent Page Three From the desk of the Pastor... We Give You Thanks, O Lord What a wonderful celebration of Thanksgiving we shared as a parish! So much food and clothing were generously provided and prepared by our parishioners, serving those in need through both Our Lady of Lourdes Soup Kitchen and our St. Vincent de Paul Society. The hundreds who were able to join us on Thanksgiving morning shared in a truly beautiful Mass. The spirit of faith and gratitude was very palpable and moving. Many thanks to all who helped make it such a beautiful, prayerful, faith-filled celebration. Many, many thanks to our Lord for all of the countless blessings he bestows on us, most especially the gift of one another. First Reconciliation Wonderfully, this Saturday morning many of our young people will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. They have been learning about how each of the sacraments is a special way in which God shows us how much he loves us by giving us special graces that we need. One of the principal forms in which Jesus shares his love with us is in the form of mercy and forgiveness. Please say a prayer for our young people that they always know God s merciful arms are extended to them throughout their lives and that they, in turn, extend their arms in forgiveness to others. A Lot Is Happening -- Don t Miss Out This is such a beautiful, yet very busy time of year. Let s make sure we remember that the reason for the season is our Lord and these days of Advent are a blessed opportunity to prepare ourselves to receive his loving presence anew into our hearts and lives. Please take some time for prayer each day, opening yourself to the Lord and his will. We have daily Advent meditation booklets available that are just the right size to easily carry with you. Please take advantage of the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, either on Saturdays at 11am or on Monday, December 17th at 7pm in a special Advent Communal Reconciliation service. And, of course, don t miss out on special charitable opportunities: - Giving Tree (please return gifts by Sun Dec 16th at 1:30pm). Can you help us deliver them? - Retirement Fund for Religious (second collection Dec 8 th -9th) -- let s show our appreciation for the selfless dedication of so many religious sisters, priests and brothers. Many enjoyed the fun games and socializing with friends at this parish activity. We could not have done it without our wonderful volunteers and the parish personnel.
