This season urgently calls us to conversion. Christians are asked to return to God "with all their hearts (Joel 2:12), to refuse to settle for mediocrity and to grow in friendship with the Lord. Jesus is the faithful friend who never abandons us. Even when we sin, he patiently awaits our return; by that patient expectation, he shows us his readiness to forgive. Pope Francis 2017

3 March 5, 2017 First Sunday in Lent Page Three From the desk of the Pastor... What a Great Evening! Our Mardi Gras party was a terrific success. Many, many thanks to our Men s Club who outdid themselves in effort and quality. Everyone commented on how good the food was and how plentiful! Days of preparation and hard work including chopping, grilling, seasoning, crocking, sampling, ladling, plating, and cleaning up -- all paid off. And a big hats off to Rob Sadlowski and the Dixieland Jazz band that wonderfully entertained us throughout the evening. Thanks, also, to all who helped with decorating, ticket sales, etc. It s great when our own folks come together to generously offer their hard work and talent to serve and share in celebrating our parish life together. Thank you! Get Your Tickets Today Our 1st Lenten Fish Fry of the season is this Friday evening. Please buy your tickets today so we don t overbuy/cook. Delicious fish dinner - $10; Mac n Cheese - $8. It s a great bargain and another great effort by our dedicated Men s Club to bring us together. Both of our Fish Frys last year were big successes. Anyone who would like to help in the effort, please contact Cathy in the office at Tuesday Evenings As part of our effort to help families come together for Lent we have designed Tuesday evenings in a special way. For the first 2 Tuesdays of Lent all parishioners will gather in the Church at 7pm for a brief prayer and hymn provided by our Children s Choir. Children will go off to classrooms and adults will go with me to Paluch Hall where I will offer presentations on the Holy Land and on Intentional Discipleship. We will conclude by 8:15pm. The 4th Tuesday we will offer a Communal Family Reconciliation -- open to all, but with special reflection/examination for parents and children. Confessors will be available for individual confessions. The 5th Tuesday our 8th graders will offer the Living Stations. Many of us were very moved last year as our young people brought the Passion of Jesus to life. Wednesday Evenings It is common each Lent to see an increased number of folks coming to one of our daily morning Masses (6:30am and 8:15am). In fact, for many of our regulars, they became so after taking it up during Lent and then continuing thereafter. Even outside of Lent we have about 120 people each day for morning Mass. The morning doesn t work for all, however, so for Lent we have added a Wednesday Mass at 6:30pm followed by Stations of the Cross at 7pm. We hope you might make time to add all or part of this to your Lenten practice. Let s have a blessed Lent, See page 8 for a little bit of humor.

A delicious family-style luncheon will be served followed by a fashion show featuring the styles of former first ladies. Tickets can be purchased starting next weekend, March 11-12th, after Masses and also at the Ministry Center. The price for a fun-filled afternoon is $40 per person. Get your ticket early as we are anticipating a large attendance for this unique event. We will have two special raffles with tickets at $2 each for five grand prizes; and $1each for our unique baskets. Extra baskets and gift cards are needed please bring your donation to the Ministry Center by March 7th! The Lenten regulations for this year are as follows: 1. Abstinence from meats is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years old and older on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of Lent. 2. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special paschal fast and abstinence are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy Saturday.
