Feast Day/Parish Day of Service Thank you to all who helped us wonderfully celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Ransom. We remembered the feast at all of our Masses with prayers and hymns to our Patroness including a beautiful litany of the titles of our Blessed Mother that encircle our church. We also commemorated it in a special way with our Parish Day of Service. Volunteers of all ages came together to offer their time and labor to help those in need and help care for our own parish grounds. Decked out in this and last years T-shirts, all assembled in church to begin the service projects in prayer and then set out to their various sites. After about 3 1/2 hours of work, we all returned to Paluch Hall to reflect on the varied experiences, attended 5pm Mass together, and then reassembled downstairs for some pizza and fellowship. Two teams set out to visit, sing and play bingo with patients at Presence and Avantara Nursing Homes. Another group went off to help organize and present for sale items to benefit persons with disabilities at Avenues for Independence. Another team headed out to Heather s House Aid for Women where their efforts assisted women and children in troubled situations. Here back at the parish two shifts of dedicated volunteer landscapers dug, weeded, edged, and cleared debris on our property. Another crew scraped and painted our parking lot curb and the statue of St. Francis. We had groups (including many of our Religious Ed children) washing down hundreds of chairs, tables and windows. Wonderful ladies tackled scrubbing and scouring our kitchen and polishing our liturgical furnishings. So much was accomplished! Many thanks to all who participated and, in a special way, to all who worked so hard organizing and making it happen including Chris Paolelli, Deborah Bosco and Kathleen Deveau. What a great way to celebrate our parish identity and Feast Day! Renew My Church (RMC) Summit This upcoming Monday and Tuesday thousands of Catholics will come together in the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center in Rosemont for a two-day summit convened by Cardinal Cupich. Each parish will be represented by Clergy, Principals, Directors of Religious Education, and a small group of Core Collaborators. By coming together for prayer and learning, the goal of the summit is to create a shared vision of renewal and foster continued revitalization of all parishes throughout the Archdiocese. To be sure you will be hearing much more about this gathering and about how we as a parish, in unity with our grouping of parishes, will chart a course for the future. In the mean time I ask for your continued prayers for the Church Universal in this difficult time and for the success of our efforts here in the Archdiocese and in our parish community. Opportunity for Discussion/Healing We are grateful to Mary Seat of Wisdom Parish, one of our RMC group parishes, for offering an opportunity for whoever would like to come together to discuss and learn more about the current sexual abuse scandal. OCTOBER 7 is RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY Beginning next weekend, October 6-7th, our parish will again be participating in The Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. This non-profit organization directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material, and spiritual support through counseling, clothing and monetary provisions, prayer, and other aid. Each year the three locations together have over 5,000 appointments with expecting mothers. By God s Grace, The Women s Centers have saved almost 40,000 babies - and their mothers - from abortion since opening in Please take a Baby Bottle home with you next weekend. Fill it with your spare change, and return it the weekend of October 27-28th. This is a simple but crucial fundraising effort for The Women s Centers. Please note the Baby Bottles cost almost $1.00 per bottle and are recycled afterwards, so please return upon completion of the project.
