Easter greetings and a warm welcome to all on this great feast of our salvation! Today we gather to celebrate the defining moment of all human history -- the moment when death itself has been conquered, once and for all, by the passionate, self-giving love of Christ. Indeed it is a time to truly Rejoice! Our Easter flowers and beautiful decorations are but a small attempt to allow our senses to experience the life and newness of this blessed feast. The deep truth of what we celebrate is, of course, so much more. We celebrate that we have been redeemed by an ever merciful God who chooses to love and forgive rather than punish; to humbly serve and suffer rather than dominate and control. We celebrate that selfless love is stronger than death and that to share in the victory of the Resurrection, we need to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. And so on this joyous feast, we renew our commitment to die to ourselves in Christ and to share God s mercy with all, that we may rise with Him to new and everlasting life. On behalf of the parish priests, deacons and staff, I wish you, your families and loved ones a very blessed and joyful Easter. Did you know that the season of Lent lasts for 40 days, but the Easter Season last for 50! How might we best share the joy of Christ s victory for us with the same kind of intentionality that marked our Lenten observances and sacrifices? The Acts of the Apostles tells us that the earliest Christians celebrated this way: With great power the apostles bore witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great favor was accorded them all. There was no needy person among them, for those who owned property or houses would sell them, bring the proceeds of the sale, and put them at the feet of the apostles, and they were distributed to each according to need. Acts 4:33-35 Unless we are member of a religious order, we will probably not be able to fully embrace such an idealistic lifestyle, but could we be intentional about accepting and including everyone as brothers and sisters in the Lord? Could we be intentional about looking at the needs of others and actively doing something about it concretely in these 50 days? Can we make the effort to consciously reflect Easter joy in our conversations, at our work place, in our prayers for one another? I hope so. The Risen Lord is counting on us!

Jesus Resurrection signals His victory over sin and death. He has conquered whatever would diminish us and separate us from God and the fullness of life. We all need this celebration of Easter which can be like an infusion of air and light in our lives which are often weighed down by sickness, anxiety, broken relationships, and personal struggles with sin and temptation. As we continue our life journey, we can count on the Resurrection of Jesus as a sure compass of hope that helps us navigate our turbulent world. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we clearly recognize that the Resurrection of Jesus is the triumph of God s mercy. The new life and hope that the Resurrection brings us is not the result of our works or merits. It is pure grace, a sheer gift of love that comes to us because of God s mercy. When we stand before that mercy, we know that we are both indebted and responsible. We are indebted to the Lord for His gift, and all we can do is give Him thanks and sing His praise. We are also responsible, for if mercy has touched us we must then be the hands and instruments of God s mercy in the world. When we carry on the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, we give living witness to our faith in His most merciful Resurrection. Let us pray for one another. 5 March 27, 2016 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord Page Five One Night Lenten Mission with Rev. Francis J. Hoffman Fr. Rocky On Tuesday, February 23, we had Fr. Rocky in the house! Fr. Rocky gave a one night parish mission: Faith, Family and Forgiveness; Encountering Christ s Mercy. Fr. Rocky gave his talk in the presence of Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Benediction followed as well as the opportunity to meet our Lord in the Sacrament of Penance. Fr. Rocky greeted folks afterward and in fact, was one of the last to leave.

Men s Breakfast.... is on Thursday, March 31, at Lola s Diner, 920 Busse Hwy, Park Ridge following the 8:15 am Mass. Adoration begins following the 8:15 am Mass, with Benediction at 7:00 pm HUNGERING FOR CELEBRATION We prayed, fasted and gave alms and now we celebrate! Our Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl ends in our own hearts, where Jesus reigns forever. Let us rejoice in our risen Lord and in the lives we ve changed this Lent in Colombia, Laos, Rwanda, Honduras, Madagascar and all over the world! Don t forget to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl next weekend April 2-3. Spend an hour with the Lord -- A sign-up sheet is in the Gathering Space The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will take place on Saturday, April 2, after the 8:15 Mass. Ole! Please plan on joining us for a Fiesta Luncheon on Saturday, April 23rd, at Fairway Banquets in Niles, Illinois. We are in need of large baskets and gift cards for our special Raffle. She asked them, to establish an Order to liberate Christians who had been kidnapped by the Moors, transported to African prisons, and cruelly tortured to deny their faith in Christ. The members were to do this by means of prayer, raising alms for ransom, and taking a vow to offer themselves, if needed, in exchange for enslaved Christians. Under Mary s special protection, the order grew rapidly and those ransomed are numbered in the tens of thousands. The feast of Our Lady of Ransom is celebrated on September 24.
