Monday evening, October 15th, we begin our first weekly session for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It truly is one of the most gratifying ministries in which we are involved as a parish. Our team accompanies and leads individuals into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through a richer understanding of and incorporation into our Catholic faith. Please prayerfully consider whether you might know anyone (i.e., fiancé, spouse, family member, in-law, friend, neighbor, co-worker, etc.) who you might invite to explore more deeply their relationship with Christ and His Church. Our Lord has given each of us a share in His mission of drawing all people to Himself. Experience has shown that often all that is needed is for someone who cares enough to simply extend an invitation. Prayer for Renew My Church The Cardinal has asked that we regularly offer the following prayer as our parishes throughout the Archdiocese embark upon Renew My Church: Lord Jesus, you speak to us today as you spoke to holy men and women who have gone before us. In every age and in our own time you call us and say, Renew My Church. Pour out the gift of your Holy Spirit upon us, and so enable us to hear you clearly to listen to each other attentively to imagine our future boldly to discern your direction wisely to persevere in your holy will courageously to stay together in charity to surrender our own plans readily to embrace the greater good to hand on your gifts to future generations. May we remain in the holy company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the apostles, and all the saints. May their example and presence inspire us with patient confidence in the work of your grace. 5 October 7, 2018 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Five OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH The mission of the Archdiocese of Chicago Domestic Violence Outreach (ACDVO) is threefold. The first is to raise awareness of domestic violence throughout the archdiocese. Second is to promote the development and delivery of services, such as counseling and group support, to women, men and children victims of domestic violence, as well as to perpetrators, at local parishes and through archdiocesan institutions and agencies. Third is to advocate for the prevention of domestic violence. Girls and boys, young women and young men, must learn to recognize the elements of unhealthy and healthy relationships. This is accomplished through education at home, in parishes, and in schools. Examples of a Healthy Relationship include: Good Hearted Behavior - talk and action so persons feel safe and comfortable Respect - listen and understand persons, affirm feelings, value concerns and opinions Trust and Support - support persons life goals, jobs, activities, family and friends Honest and Accountable - communicate openly, truthfully, accept responsibility for past and current behavior of oneself Sharing Responsibility - share decisionmaking for family, activities, and financial matters, agree on fair distribution of household tasks Positive Parenting - positive role models in home, church and community, family prayer times, meals and activities ACDVO: National Hotline: 24 Hour Hotline: National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS OUR LADY OF RANSOM ST. 6 October 7, 2018 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Six On Monday, September 24, Embers Academy students gathered together to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Ransom. The K-5th grade students held a special prayer service in the Gathering Space that concluded with the students presenting flowers to Fr. Chris in gratitude for all he does for Embers Academy and the parish. The prayer service was followed by a visit to the Blessed Sacrament. Do You have a Loved One in the Hospital? Please notify us if you or your loved one is in the hospital and would like a pastoral visit from one of our priests or Ministers of Care. Hospitals no longer notify the parish when a person is in the hospital. Please call the Ministry Center at with their information, as it is our only way of knowing if you or your loved one is hospitalized. Also, because of the Privacy Laws, only immediate family members or the patient themselves may request names to be added to our Pray for the Sick List.

7 October 7, 2018 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Seven WOW! - You mean we get two pairs of new socks?! This was the exclamation made by our guests during our September 19 Soup Kitchen date at Our Lady of Lourdes. We were able to serve dinner to our 100 friends plus some of our volunteers. Your generous donations of food made it possible for several guests to enjoy second helpings. Very few of our regular volunteers were able to assist, but at the last minute Heidi and Joe agreed to drive our donations down to Lourdes. Thank you all who came to help! Two young gentlemen, William and Rocco (ages 6 and 4) assisted us in filling the goody bags under the supervision of their dad, John: A BIG HELP!! Our next Soup Kitchen date is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 21, when we will hope to serve a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. This may be our last date at Lourdes because the volunteer coordinator, Bill Thome, is retiring and moving to Arizona. So please mark your calendars and also save your winter coats, scarves, boots and blankets for this date. Many drivers will be needed. More information in future bulletins. Blessings to you all! Soup Kitchen Committee Holiday Craft and Bake Sale Queen of Peace Guild Saturday, November 10 ~ 9:00am-6:00pm Sunday, November 11 ~ 8:30am-2:00pm The ladies from the Guild have been working on crafts and various items all year. Available will be gift baskets, handmade jewelry, handmade clothes to fit the American Girl Doll, baby items, afghans, crochet stuffed toy animals, Christmas wreaths and decorated trees, Thanksgiving items, and much more. There will be a bakery sale, money tree booth, turkey booth, guessing game and the main raffle. Come and enjoy some refreshments while you shop and visit with friends.
