3 April 8, 2018 Second Sunday of Easter Page Three From the desk of the Pastor... Alleluia!!! What a great Holy Week we shared! As I tried to express at all of the Easter Masses, it truly is a joy to gather as a people of faith to celebrate with great dignity, solemnity and joy the Paschal Triduum. Many, many thanks to all who so generously helped us to do so through their ministries, liturgical and otherwise. Under the great direction of Rob Sadlowski our choirs, quartet and accompanists were outstanding and such a gift. Our young people led us in prayer depicting the Stations of the Cross with great reverence and beauty. Our Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, Servers and Lectors prepared and executed so well. Our money counters worked overtime tracking carefully each donation. In a special way I would like to thank the incredibly dedicated team that took the church through various transformations from the desert of Lent - to the praises of Palm Sunday - to our reverence of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday - to the stark emptiness of Good Friday - and finally to the great joy of Easter -- including: Phyllis Ranalli, Carol Bergeron, Justine Rothstein, Del Luna, Elena Ramirez, D.J. Ramirez, Dennis Ramirez, and Rita Callero. I would also like to thank a group of volunteers who gave their time and effort again this year polishing all of the sacred vessels, processional cross, candle stand and followers, etc. And, of course, many thanks to my great staff that works so hard to make sure every detail is attended to in a rather stressful time. It was also great to have Bishop Francis Kane, Fr. Mark Augustine and seminarian Joe Hinderer return to join us for several parts of the Triduum, supplementing our retired and weekend assistants Fr. Robert Darow, Fr. Andrew Luczak and Fr. Paul Reczek, OFM who are such a blessing. The spirit of Easter joy was tangible as record crowds gathered with us in celebration of God s love triumphant over death. Let us hold that joy in our hearts and share it with a world in desperate need of it. Congratulations Emmanuel I am thrilled to announce that one of our own, Emmanuel Arenas, has just been accepted into the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits ). Emmanuel is a wonderful young man, the son of David and Lucia Arenas, whom I have been privileged to come to know really since I arrived almost 14 years ago. He is a life-long parishioner, the product of our Religious Education Program, a graduate of Maine South and Marquette University, has worked in the world of finance, and has discerned that he is called to pursue the religious life and priesthood. He recently represented the parish at the Cathedral for the Chrism Mass, receiving the holy oils that we will use throughout the year for the sacraments. We congratulate and support Emmanuel and ask that you please keep him in your prayers. Please continue to pray regularly also for more vocations to priesthood and religious life. Have a joy-filled, blessed Easter week,

Together, we learn the many components of a comprehensive dialogue and identify our personal values and goals essential to understanding and communicating care preferences. This session will enhance parishioner s comfort and confidence in creating a quality of care plan and exploring what living well at every age and health stage means to us. We will also learn about basic options to consider in our own end of life heath care and how best to translate our goals with loved ones and physicians. We will also pass out and discuss Five Wishes. Five Wishes has become America s most popular living will because it is written in everyday language and helps start and structure important conversations about care in times of serious illness. Randi Belisomo, DBe, is the President and Co-Founder of Life Matters Media. She serves as a reporter at WGN-TV in Chicago and is a frequent contributor to Chicago Public Radio, Relevant Radio and WGN-720 AM. Thursday, April 12th Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church-Gathering Area 7:00pm to 8:30pm Life Matters Media aims to be the premiere provider of information, resources and support for all involved in end of life decision-making. It is that God loves us all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC: A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C - Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. This message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God's mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread.
