Last year when we celebrated our first parish Fat Tuesday the consistent refrain of those who attended was, We have to do this again! It really was a terrific success. This year, on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday ( Fat Saturday?) our Men s Club will be providing an incredible menu of food and refreshments. Rob Sadlowski has once again reached out to parishioners and put back together the band to provide Dixieland Jazz music for our entertainment throughout the evening. Our Social Events and Parish Council members and others will assist with ticket sales, decorating, etc. Get your tickets this weekend. Don t miss out on a wonderful parish celebration on Saturday, February 10th. A Pilgrimage One of the great experiences of my life was the opportunity to go on pilgrimage a little over a year ago with several of our parishioners to the Holy Land. Many have inquired since about organizing another pilgrimage. I am pleased to be able to announce that we have put together a wonderful trip to Spain and Portugal this year to take place from October 14th thru the 28th. Spain, of course, was the place where Our Lady of Ransom appeared in the year 1218 to St. Peter Nolasco, St. Raymond of Penafort and King James of Aragon inspiring them to form an Order to raise funds to ransom Christian pilgrims who were being captured by the Moors and held and tortured for the faith in prisons in Africa. Fatima, Portugal is where our Blessed Lady appeared 6 times in the year 1917 to the 3 shepherd children Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. It is also the site of the Miracle of the Sun witnessed by thousands. For those interested there will be an information meeting Thursday, February 15th at 7pm in Paluch Hall. This review process is part of the ordinary structure required by Archdiocesan Policy of every diocesan priest approximately every five years. It is an opportunity for Fr. Gustafson to recognize his talents and to grow to become a better priest and pastoral minister. Selected members of the parish staff and parish leadership, your Dean, and myself will be asked to be reviewers using this instrument. According to Archdiocesan policies lay leadership and parishioners are to be given the opportunity to recognize Fr. Gustafson s gifts and to share their sentiments about his ministry. So, we re providing a parish-wide survey as part of this review process. The survey can be easily accessed by going to the Archdiocese s web page ( and clicking on Offices and Ministries on the top panel. This will bring you to an alphabetical listing of offices.
