3 May 15, 2016 Pentecost Sunday Page Three From the desk of the Pastor... Renew My Church Adopting the message given by God to St. Francis of Assisi in the early 13th Century, Archbishop Cupich has called the church of Chicago to undertake a mission-driven spiritual/pastoral renewal. Please see in the pages that follow a helpful presentation on this pastoral plan that will involve every parish in the Archdiocese. As the process unfolds, we will keep you informed of what we are doing, how we will be effected, and how to get involved. Some have already participated by completing the survey we introduced at Easter. The overall goal of the process is to strengthen the vitality of all of our parishes for years to come. This weekend we will begin praying a special prayer that the process be inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit a fitting prayer for our celebration of Pentecost. Closing Mass and Awards This past Tuesday evening we wrapped up another wonderful year for our Religious Education Program. We offered the Mass in thanksgiving for all of the blessings experienced this year and asked the Holy Spirit to keep us mindful of the needs of others and extend ourselves in love and care for them. Afterwards we gave out awards and had DQ Dilly Bars! We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful program under the welcoming, enthusiastic, Spirit-filled direction of Maureen Valvassori. We are very grateful to our parents for enabling us to help them fulfill their responsibility of raising their children in the faith. It takes so many generous and dedicated catechists and volunteers to be able to make this all happen. Thank You: Assistant: Gailmarie Mattison; Cathechists: 1st grade: Tanya Dooley; 2nd grade: Renee Polinski, Pat Moritz; 3rd grade: Lulu and George de los Reyes; 4th grade: Elena Ward; 5th grade: Diane Jurczak; 6th grade: Alison Walsh; 7th grade: Joe Paolelli, Angela and Brian Staunton; 8th grade: Peggy Sliwa, Jim Potthast; Study Buddies: Lydia LaScola and Angie DePaz; Music: Lynda Santrella; Special Assistants: Jenny Ciupinski, Joe Klamerus, Tony Davies, Anil Joshi; Parking: Ken Klamerus; Frank Pacheco; Safety: Jim Ciupinski; Office/Hall: Maya Michno, Denise Roman, Vanessa Magdeleno, Marzena Owca; Substitutes : Reymia Sychangco, Alex Valvassori; Photos: Kathryn Marquez, Jennie Escobar; Tech: Cathy Randazzo; Children s Liturgy of the Word: Kathy Scimeca, Teri Muszynski, Gemma Herrera. Thank you all! Thank You! I am deeply appreciative to all who contributed to our Easter collection one of our largest, single annual collections (second only to Christmas) and one upon which we very much rely. This year our collection totaled $57,617, exceeding our budgeted $55,000. Thank you to all who contribute regularly in support of our parish needs, ministries and outreach through our weekly collections which is the lifeblood of our financial stability. And thank you to all who continue to fulfill their pledges to the To Teach Who Christ Is campaign. We have been at work implementing the projects of Phase II and will give you an update in the near future. Have a blessed Pentecost and week ahead,

4 May 15, 2016 Pentecost Sunday Page Four Office of the Archbishop 835 North Rush Street Chicago, IL archchicago.org April 25 Jubilee of Mercy Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, At its heart, Renew My Church in the Archdiocese of Chicago is a spiritual initiative. We seek to be more and more attuned to the directions in which the Lord is leading us as a community of faith. There are many activities that belong to the process of Renew My Church, for example, gathering and analyzing data, meeting to discuss choices that are to be made, and working to implement decisions. Above all, however, the Lord summons us to prayer. We are called to pray for wisdom, discernment, and courage as we move forward. We are called to pray for persevering fidelity to accomplish what the Lord wants of us. The enclosed prayer will help us as a local Church to pray with a common voice as we face a common challenge of moving into the future with faith, hope, and love. In this spirit of unity in prayer, I ask all parishes in the Archdiocese to use this prayer as the final prayer of the General Intercessions at Pentecost weekend Masses. If Pentecost coincides with a special celebration or event in the parish, for example, First Communion or a capital campaign commitment, please use the prayer on the next available weekend. After Pentecost, continue to use the prayer in different ways. You may pray it on the first Sunday of each month or more frequently. Begin parish meetings or gatherings with this prayer. Incorporate it in religious education and adult faith formation. Consider pasting it in the inside cover of your hymnals. Encourage individuals and families to pray this prayer at home. Encourage the sick and those who are homebound to pray for Renew My Church. Their intercessory prayer is powerful in the life of the Church. And, of course, allow your creativity to bring this prayer into the life of our communities in other ways as well. As we encourage all of God s people to join in prayer for the renewal of the Church, may the good Lord continue to accompany us on our journey. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Blase J. Cupich Archbishop of Chicago

7 May 15, 2016 Pentecost Sunday Page Seven PRAYER FOR RENEW MY CHURCH Lord Jesus, you speak to us today, as you spoke to holy men and women who have gone before us. In every age and in our own time, you call to us and say: Renew My Church Pour out the gift of your Holy Spirit upon us, and so enable us To hear you clearly To listen to each other attentively To imagine our future boldly To discern your direction wisely To persevere in your holy will courageously To stay together in charity To surrender own plans readily To embrace the greater good To hand on your gifts to future generations. May we remain in the holy company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the apostles, and all the saints. May their example and presence inspire us with patient confidence in the work of your grace. We ask this of you who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. MOVING? Don t forget to let us know too. We try to keep our parishioner list updated. We get many returned weekly envelope mailings as undeliverable but have no way of knowing if you have moved unless you notify us. Thank you!
