Encountering Jesus with Joy This past Tuesday evening we kicked off the new year for our Religious Education Program with Mass for our children, parents, catechists and volunteers. Encountering Jesus with Joy is our theme for the year. It was great to welcome back so many families with whom we partner in passing on the faith to our young people. And, of course, so wonderful to welcome new families into the program. Our faith must be more than simply knowing about and even admiring Jesus. It is about relationship. It is about experiencing ourselves as loved and called to a deeper, richer life with and in Christ. We can encounter our Lord Jesus in many ways, both in the natural order and in the life of grace. This year we especially hope to reflect upon and provide opportunities for such encounters to take place for our children. I am very grateful to our Director of Religious Education, Connie Mottely, her support staff and all of the catechists and volunteers who so generously give of their time and effort to help our children come closer to Jesus. It s always a joy when our wonderful ladies come together in support of each other and our parish community. Oktoberfest Once again our Men s Club in coordination with our Social Events Committee and other Volunteers will host a fun-filled evening welcoming the Fall season. The German-American Oom-pah band, Phenix, will again provide the entertainment. The evening will be filled with great food and much singing, dancing, and toasting! NEXT WEEKEND - SECOND COLLECTION - SEMINARIAN EDUCATION The Seminarian Education Fund provides support for the training and education of men studying for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The fund helps to cover the cost to educate each Archdiocesan seminarian as he proceeds through the various stages of formation before ordination as a priest. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 We are planning to serve dinner at Our Lady of Lourdes located at 4641 North Ashland in Chicago on Wednesday, September 19 at 5:30 p.m. Our guests are always so thrilled when we bring a delicious meal plus new men s tube socks and small toiletries. They especially need wash cloths, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and shampoo. We are the only parish that donates the socks, so please see if you can shop for men s tube socks. Please bring any items to the Ministry Center anytime before September 19 marked Soup Kitchen. We hope to serve our usual menu to over 100 guests: Frozen Meatballs Grated Italian Cheese Lettuce, Tomatoes, Cucumbers Onions, Carrots, Celery Fresh Fruit: Apples, Oranges, etc. Bottled Spaghetti Sauce Cooked Mostaccoli (in plastic bags) Italian Oil & Vinegar Salad Dressing Wrapped Candy Desserts Sheet cakes and cookies As we always say, we cannot do it without you, and the Lord s help! FOUR WINDS CASINO TRIP (Sponsored by the CWC) Tuesday October 16, 2018 The outing will begin at OLR on Normal Avenue in front of the Ministry Center. The bus will pick us up at 8:30am.
