2 OUR LADY OF LORETTO HOMETOWN - OAK LAWN Page 2 Dear Parish Family, As we celebrate Thanksgiving Day this coming week, we not only give thanks to God for the blessings we have received, we also promise to wisely use those blessings. We thank God for the gift of faith. We promise to show our gratitude by allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us in bringing others to Christ. We rejoice in the labors of farmers, who bring us an abundant harvest. We commit to treasuring the riches of the earth. We are grateful for our homes, our jobs, our health and food on the table. We show concern for the homeless, the unemployed, the sick and the hungry. On Thanksgiving Day, we are grateful for families, friends, and neighbors. We work to build love and joy among our families, friends, and neighbors. We are grateful for our freedoms. We remember those who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for those freedoms. We celebrate the diversity of cultures that make us a great people and nation. We work to be a people that respect all cultures, life, and creation. On Thanksgiving Day, we remember loved ones, gone before us in faith to God, who have brought joy to our table. We give thanks for those who have gone home to God. 3 SUNDAY NOVEMBER 19, 2017 Page 3 PARISH ACTIVITIES The Food Pantry would like to thank everyone for their ongoing generosity and support. As the holidays quickly approach, the needs of the Food Pantry greatly increase. Please keep us in mind while doing your holiday shopping, and think about purchasing a few of your favorite holiday foods to donate! We are always in need of staples, such as: cereal, (both hot and cold), macaroni and cheese, canned fruits and veggies, pasta sauce and canned pasta meals (ravioli, etc). On Sunday, November 19th, after the 11:15 Mass, the Food Pantry is looking for volunteers to help put together the Thanksgiving bags for our Food Pantry patrons. Come join us!!! Many Thanks, The Food Pantry Be sure to join the Women s Guild as they host their annual Craft Show on Sunday, November 26, in the B Building, from 9am until 3pm. Get a start on your Christmas shopping, and buy something really unique. There promises to be something for everyone, and, of course, some great home-cooked food and tasty sweets from the table of Loretto s Luscious Creations. Don t miss this event!!! The OLL Men s Club will be selling luminaries at the Christmas Craft Fair, as well as after each Mass, beginning December 2. The cost is $3 each or 2 for $5. Take them home and decorate them, and, if you like, you can bring them back on December 17th, and they will be set out on Christmas Eve, inside the Church. News and notes In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the First Degree of the Knights of Columbus Order, which is Charity, Council 805 Pope Leo XIII, has donated $ to the Our Lady of Loretto Food Pantry. Their generosity is greatly appreciated in this time of need for many of our families. There will be a Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service today, Sunday, November 19, at 6pm, held at Hometown Christian Church, 4340 W. 87th Street. Join us for a rewarding experience, and time well spent. Refreshments will be served after the Service. Due to a scheduling conflict, and the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, there will be no Girls Night Out on Friday, November 24. The next meeting will be on Friday, December 15, the night of the Christmas Party. Now you can spend all day shopping on Friday and not worry about getting home early for the meeting. Sharing Our Gifts This week's scriptures use images of the harvest, family life, and investment to describe the abundant harvest in the reign of God. We discover that sharing the gifts we have been given brings eternal rewards for everyone. In the Gospel parable a master entrusts his possessions to three servants before going on a journey. Each is given some talents. What they do with those talents determines what the master will do with them when he returns. How about us? What are we doing with our talents?
