3 April 29, 2018 Fifth Sunday of Easter Page Three Protection of Children and Youth The Archdiocese of Chicago implemented the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young to create safe environments for children and youth in our parishes, schools and community. Our children in our religious education program are provided age-appropriate, research-based training from the Office of Protection of Children and Youth. The Safe Environment Office educates clergy, employees and volunteers of the Archdiocese of Chicago how to recognize and report abuse. It s important to note that the programs are abuse prevention training that encourages disclosure of abuse, neglect or any troubling information for safety steps or services. All parish clergy, employees, and adult volunteers who work with children are required to be a part of creating a safe environment. These adults are required to create an online Virtus account to pre-register for Virtus program, Protecting God s Children for Adults. It is a live training program conducted by certified facilitators throughout the archdiocese, with monthly online bulletins. Adults also sign the Code of Conduct Acknowledgment Form, and submit a yearly review through the State of Illinois Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System [CANTS]. BOB BEAVEN - GOLDEN JUBILEE Fr. Bob Beaven is celebrating 50 years of ordination to the priesthood. He will offer a Mass of Thanksgiving on Saturday, May 19th at 5:00 p.m. at St. Gilbert Church, 301 East Belvidere Road in Grayslake. 6 April 29, 2018 Fifth Sunday of Easter Page Six Pajama Drive for Victims of Domestic Abuse - April 14 - May 8, 2018 Our newly established parish ministry team for the Archdiocese s Domestic Violence Outreach (ACDVO) Ministry has chosen to help WINGS; a local nonprofit housing agency program. Their resale stores support shelters where families flee to, in the middle of the night with only the clothes they are wearing. A nice clean pair of pajamas would be a comfort to those fleeing a dangerous situation.
