3 June 11, 2017 The Most Holy Trinity Page Three From the desk of the Pastor... Reasons to Believe Be sure to mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 27th, 7:00pm in Paluch Hall. Our very own Joe Paolelli has agreed to offer to our parish a presentation he has created to counter the cultural tide of increasing skepticism about our faith. Many of you know Joe as a long-time, active, young parishioner who can be found serving as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Mass, teaching our young people in Religious Education, and playing the saxophone at various parish events. He (and all his brothers) received his undergraduate education at Northwestern University and his Masters in Theology at Loyola University. He is a Catholic High School teacher at Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst. Used to speaking with young people who often ask direct questions and crave direct, honest answers, Joe will offer insights and strategies in a simple, accessible way. Society increasingly presents us with reasons not to believe in God, and to discount the validity of religion, and even Catholics may sometimes take these negative messages to heart. I feel that this is a good way to use my training and skills to combat that trend and equip Catholics with some solid reasons to believe, both for themselves and for any conversations they might have with other people who are unsure. We often talk about how best to Evangelize, especially proclaiming the Gospel effectively to the next generation. Thank you, Joe! Ransom Ravinia I can t wait! All of us know Jody Schuth as our principal female cantor with a beautiful voice that helps us pray at Mass. You may not know that Jody is a female vocalist also in The Band Sundance. They have a broad repertoire entertaining with music from the 60 s, 70 s 80 s, 90 s and today. They will be our entertainment here, under the stars, at this year s Ransom Ravinia. As we get closer you will hear more about all that the Men s Club has planned for the evening. So, once again, be sure to mark your calendars for the evening of Thursday, July 20th and plan on coming to our north parking lot and field for a great summer night. Thank you, Jody! On the Most Holy Trinity... The "name" of the Most Holy Trinity is in a certain way impressed upon everything that exists, because everything that exists, down to the least particle, is a being in relation, and thus God-relation shines forth, ultimately creative Love shines forth. All comes from love, tends toward love, and is moved by love, naturally, according to different grades of consciousness and freedom... The strongest proof that we are made in the image of the Trinity is this: only love makes us happy, because we live in relation, and we live to love and be loved. Science has not been able to solve the mystery of how the universe came into being or explain exactly what continues to give it creative energy and masterful design. No religion asserts that it has found words to name fully the ineffable mystery of God, for no matter what name we use, God always transcends our limited ability to understand. God is a mystery to be believed, not known. And yet, we Christians believe that our name for God best expresses that inexpressible mystery: God is the Most Holy Trinity of three persons united in a communion of love, pouring forth that creative, saving, sanctifying love into the world. Today s scriptures celebrate the mystery of the Trinity and give us clues for living that mystery in our lives. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
