3 April 23, 2017 Second Sunday of Easter - Divine Mercy Sunday Page Three From the desk of the Pastor... Alleluia!!! He Is Risen As He Said!!! What a great Holy Week we shared! As I tried to express at all of the Easter Masses, it truly is a joy to gather as a people of faith to celebrate with fitting dignity, solemnity and joy the Paschal Mystery. Many, many thanks to all who so generously helped us to do so through their ministries, liturgical and otherwise. Our choirs, quartet and accompanists were such a gift. Our money counters worked overtime tracking carefully and accurately each donation. In a special way I would like to thank the incredibly dedicated team that took the church through various transformations from the desert of Lent - to the praises of Palm Sunday - to our reverence of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday - to the stark, eerie emptiness of Good Friday - and finally to the great joy of Easter -- including: Phyllis Ranalli, Marilyn Kirschten, Delores Petz, Philomena Randazzo, Kathy Randazzo, and Rita Callero. I would also like to thank a new group of volunteers who pray the Rosary daily after the 8:15am Mass. This year they gave their time and effort as well to polishing all of the sacred vessels, processional cross, candle stand and followers, etc. It was also great to have Fr. Mark return to join us for several parts of the Triduum. The spirit of Easter joy was tangible as record crowds gathered with us in celebration of God s love triumphant over death. Let us hold that joy in our hearts and share it with a world in desperate need of it. Come Holy Spirit We congratulate and hold in prayer our young men and women who will be receiving the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation administered by Bishop John Manz on Wednesday evening. Many of us were privileged to witness their powerful depiction of Christ s Passion in the Living Stations both during Lent and on Good Friday. May they always follow the life of grace that God wants for them through their use of the 7-fold gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, knowledge, understanding, counsel (right judgment), fortitude (courage), piety (reverence) and fear of the Lord (awe/wonder). We are proud of and grateful for them. CWC Spring Luncheon Fashion Show With all of the bulletin deadlines during this busy time, I never got to formally congratulate and thank the Catholic Women s Club for their creative and entertaining Springtime gathering. Thanks to Suzie Nape, a number of familiar faces took on the personas of First Ladies, donning their daytime and evening wear. It was also educational as we learned about their personalities and styles in relation to their spouse s presidency. Thanks to all who took to the runway and all who support the CWC and the wonderful work they do. God Bless Our Visiting Seminarians You may recall that we were asked to participate in a pilot program for allowing seminarians to experience parish life on given Sundays during their academic year. We were fortunate to have 6 such seminarians participate with us from Chicago, Grand Rapids and Wichita. Under the direction of Deacon Steve Geerling and with the wonderful support of parishioners Andy and Loll Thelen and Bob and Maureen Bell, they were able to get a glimpse of life at Our Lady of Ransom. Their last such visit will be this weekend. We wish them well and ask God s blessing on their continued journey to the priesthood. Have a blessed week of Easter joy,
4 April 23, 2017 Second Sunday of Easer - Divine Mercy Sunday Page Four Prayer to End Abortion WEDDING BANNS I - John Gustafson & Nicole Hubbard Lord God, we praise and thank You for the gift of our lives, and for the lives of all human beings. There is nothing more destructive to human life than abortion, yet we rejoice that You have conquered death by the resurrection of Your Son. Help us to do our part to end abortion -- never to be silent, never to be passive, and never to be forgetful of the unborn. Give us strength to defend human life, especially in the womb, until all humans are protected. Guide our nation to truly be a nation with liberty and justice not just for some, but for all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Rice Bowl Return! We prayed, fasted and gave alms -- and now we celebrate! Our community changed lives this Lent, and CRS Rice Bowl wants to say THANK YOU! Please return your Rice Bowls beginning this weekend. A Container is in the Gathering Space, thank you for your generosity. SPIRIT OF UNENDING LOVE SOUL Due to Confirmation, our charismatic prayer group will not meet on Wednesday, April 26. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FR.
