3 January 13, 2019 The Baptism of the Lord Page Three From the desk of the Pastor... What Now? With our celebration of the Baptism of Jesus, the Christmas Season comes to a close. We might ask how or even whether it has had any effect on us. Has it renewed our desire to more faithfully bear the joy of life in Christ? Deacon Charlie O Donnell offered a wonderful insight in a homily a while back quoting Howard Thurmond, philosopher and theologian: When the song of the angels is silent, when the star in the sky is done, when the kings and princes are home, when the shepherds are again tending their sheep, when the manger is darkened and still the work of Christmas begins: to find the lost, to heal the broken, to feed the hungry, to rebuild the nations, to bring peace among people, to befriend the lonely, to release the prisoner, to make music to the heart. The magi were able to find the Christ child by the guiding light of a star. How wonderful when we can guide one another and others to Christ when we bear His light in the world through acts of goodness, generosity, kindness and charity. May the peace, joy and love of Christmas carry us into the new year and inspire us to live out the great and profound mystery of love we have celebrated. Evening of Recollection for Liturgical Ministers We are very blessed to have so many of our parishioners help us to celebrate the Holy Liturgy with dignity, solemnity and joy. Our Lectors prayerfully prepare for and carry out the sacred proclamation of God s Word. Our Eucharistic Ministers express their devotion to our Lord s presence in the Eucharist by reverent distribution of Holy Communion to our people. Our Choir Members faithfully rehearse and joyfully lift our hearts and voices in song. Our Ushers are our front line in greeting folks, assisting with seating, taking up the collection, and facilitating orderly distribution of Holy Communion. They also serve to help with emergencies and clean up messes. And though they are not strictly speaking Liturgical Ministers, our Ministers of Care go forth from Mass with the Holy Eucharist, bringing it to those who cannot be with us due to illness or age. We are very grateful for everyone s time and commitment. All Liturgical Ministers and all who are interested in assisting through these ministries asked to attend a special Evening of Recollection on Monday, January 21st at 7:00pm. We will have a period of reflection and then an opportunity for our ministers to discuss their ministries and address whatever practical issues involved. We will also remandate our ministers. The meeting will begin in the church at 7:00 pm. There will be an opportunity to reflect on our ministries and discuss practical issues involved.
