Mark s last weekend serving our parish before he moves to his new assignment on the faculty of St. Joseph College Seminary at Loyola University. He will be present and preach at all the Masses, but following the 5 pm Saturday Mass, we will have a reception with light refreshments in Paluch Hall. All are invited to come together to wish Fr. Mark well and allow him to express his gratitude and farewells in person. God Bless Our Fathers At the Masses this weekend we will offer a special blessing to our fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, and all who offer us paternal love and care. They protect us, provide for us and support us often in many unappreciated ways. It is sad that all too often their holy vocation is depicted so disparagingly in sit-coms, movies, etc. Far from being bumbling dolts, our fathers are so often are a great source of thoughtful advice, lived experience and compassionate encouragement. They are often faithful, quiet examples of hard work and loving dedication. We are deeply grateful for them and we ask our Heavenly Father to bless them this day: St. Joseph, Come to our Aid Just as our Heavenly Father chose St. Joseph to be the earthly protector and provider for the Holy Family, so he has provided us with earthly fathers to do the same. As such, St. Joseph is a great intercessor for all fathers, especially those who are struggling to find sufficient employment to support their families. The following is a prayer asking St. Joseph for his prayerful assistance: Dear St. Joseph, head of the most perfect household, foster father of Jesus and guardian of His mother Mary, we confidently place ourselves and all our concerns under your care and protection. We ask that, through your powerful intercession with God, you obtain for the family all the help and graces that they need for their spiritual and temporal welfare. In particular, knowing that you needed work in order to support and provide for your family; and you had to leave your home, hard as that was, to ensure their safety and well being, we ask that you help them to obtain all that is necessary to live fully the lives you want for them. May their financial needs be met through gainful employment opportunities (and may they sell their house that with love and care they have made into a home). Through it all, may they be strengthened in their faith and continue to care for one another with the heart of Jesus. Good St. Joseph, we know with confidence that your prayers on the behalf of the family will be heard by God, and if it is His Will, they will be granted. 5 June 19, 2016 Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Five SAVE THE DATE Saturday July 2 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I have been a Discalced Carmelite Friar in the California/Arizona Province of St. Joseph for the past nine years. I started at our Novitiate in San Jose for my first two years, where I was immersed in Carmelite spirituality and learned about our Saints. I then took five temporary one-year vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience until I made my Solemn Profession to this Order of Mary on August 22, 2013, at Mount Angel Oregon, where I then spent six years at the Benedictine Seminary studying Philosophy and Theology. On October 14, 2014, I was ordained a Deacon by the current Archbishop of Portland, the Most Reverend Alexander K. Sample. It is now with great thanks to God that I will soon be ordained a priest on June 18, 2016, at St. Therese Parish in Alhambra, California, by the Most Reverend Alexander Salazar, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Since July of 2015, I have been stationed at this Carmelite-run Parish, where I have been functioning as a full-time deacon, primarily preparing and giving homilies and talks, as well as teaching Religion and Math to approximately 100 First and Eighth-Grade students at Saint Therese Carmelite School. Shortly after my ordination, I will travel to Our Lady of Ransom Parish to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving with you on Saturday, July 2 at the 5:00 p.m. Mass, followed by blessings of the people in the reception area. Again, I write with great joy and the expectation of being a priest in order to celebrate the Sacraments, serve the People of God, and preach His Word. Thank you for your prayers.
