7 St. Ann s Parish 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time January 24, 2016 It s that time of the year that I know you all look forward to with baited breath every January the official start of the Cardinal s Appeal (a blare of trumpets and a firework extravaganza!!!!!) Every year we undertake this important appeal, as do many other dioceses, and I feel it is important for us to remember that it is an activity in stewardship, that is, we are taking care of what has been entrusted to us, and that participating in this annual fundraising drive is to provide what it is our duty as Christians to do. We therefore should not see our participation as merely a charitable giving but part of our proper response to God s call to serve one another. In other words, we should not see the Appeal as the Cardinal begging us for money, but rather, that he is leading us in our duty. It therefore means that every parishioner should participate to the best of his/her ability. This year, our goal for the Appeal is $49,500. This is a very reasonable goal for us, and if everyone participates, we will have no problem at all reaching our goal, as indeed we do every year. Last year, you may recall we made goal by April, which was a full two months ahead of when we made goal in Many of you may have already received a letter from Cardinal Dolan asking for your generous gift. This is always the stage where the majority of pledges are made. If/when you get your letter, please respond right away with a generous pledge. Remember that your gift can be made in installments. That s what I always do; I break my gift up into five monthly payments. We will have our annual in-pew appeal sometime in February. Let s try to make goal by then so that we can move into the latter portion of Lent and toward Easter focusing on the liturgy and our faith rather than on financial matters. I know we will make our goal again this year, and I know I can count on you for your constant support. Thank you in advance for your generosity in this important appeal, and let s make goal by March! The Archdiocese of New York values having professionally trained business managers positioned in parishes to ensure that the highest levels of financial management, reporting and pastoral stewardship are conducted. As such, the archdiocese wishes to formally undertake, together with the Villanova Center for Church Management and Business Ethics (CCMBE), an agreement to offer a Master s of Science in Church Management (MSCM) degree. The MSCM program will provide church management education to individuals interested in serving as parish business managers. ADNY/Villanova s MSCM is delivered entirely online (with the exception of a residency weekend at St. Joseph s Seminary). This allows the flexibility and convenience that church workers need. To make the degree as accessible as possible, it is proposed that, in each course, content will be delivered to ADNY students in three formats: Asynchronously through pre-recorded lectures that students can access at times convenient to them, as often as they wish. Synchronous tutorial sessions in which the professor is available to any student wishing to log on and participate in discussing the material and/or ask questions. Asynchronous discussion boards in which respond to questions posted by the professor and engage in dialogue with one another over a defined period. These formats offer maximum flexibility while still maintaining the integrity of content quality. This is conceived as a part-time program. Ordinarily, students will take two courses per semester.
