5 REGISTRATION NOW OPEN! Go to Summer Programs under the Education and Evangelization tab from the parish website to register your child or to volunteer. SHIPWRECKED Vacation Bible School will take place June for children entering Kindergarten to 5th grade. Volunteers needed students entering 7th grade and above, as well as adults. TotusTuus will begin Sunday, June 24th for Junior High/ High School youth, and Monday, June 25th for children in 1st to 6th grade. Host families needed to house the TotusTuus team during the week; as well as families willing to provide lunch or dinner. High school students are invited to volunteer during the day program. Please contact the RE Office at to find out more. A Protecting God s Children training class will be held at Saints Peter and Paul on Thursday, April 26 th from 6:30-9:30pm. This one-time class is required for anyone who volunteers or works with children and vulnerable adults in our parish. 6 8 th Grade Finance Class taught by SSPP alum! Tommy Walter, a Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School graduate from the Class of 1999, gives back to his alma mater in numerous ways. For the last 6 years, Tommy has offered 8 th grade students a class about finances and investments. The following is Tommy s description of this class: Some say 8th Grade is too young to learn about stocks, investing, and how money really works! At the University of Money, held at Saints Peter and Paul, we say Make Your Money, Make UMoney and bust that perception. Over the course of eight classes, the 8th grade students learn the history of the stock market, how stocks work, investing principles, and compete in a yearlong stock market challenge as portfolio managers. They learn about taxes, types of retirement and investing accounts, the challenges in the real world, and how to be successful. Students find out how the rich become truly rich and the pitfalls and temptations of the poor. Not being in the Rat Race and being financially free is understood. The concepts that are not taught in school are taught here. In the Final Jeopardy class, a review and game of all the concepts, students show how much they truly have learned and the excitement of a topic they will carry for the rest of their lives. 7 Youth Ministry Faith of Our Fathers: The History of the Church Join us for a study on the history of the Catholic Church through 10 important dates that formed the Body of Christ and influenced the spread of the Gospel. We will be using the book 10 Dates Every Catholic Should Know by Diane Moczar. Discuss how Jesus is the center of time and how your story fits into His-story! Participants will be provided a book each evening. No purchase is required to attend. Bring a snack to share. 11 Mark s Gospel Corner Today s Gospel can be taken from either John 11:1-45, where Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, or John 12:20-33, where Greeks visiting Jerusalem ask to speak with Jesus. Both Gospels prepare the reader for what is to come Jesus Passion and Resurrection. We see in the raising of Lazarus, how the disciples' misunderstanding leads to Jesus explanation. If Lazarus is only asleep, why does Jesus need to go to him? Jesus explains, Lazarus is dead. Risking His life, Jesus returns to Judea to aid His friend. Confronted with Lazarus death, Jesus weeps. His humanity is seen. The delay in His coming is purposeful to show the power of God. Martha tells Him, Jesus, had you been here, Lazarus would not have died. She recognizes that at the end time her brother will rise again, but what she does not recognize is that in Jesus, the end time is present. He reminds her: I am the resurrection and the life. To this Martha replies, I have come to believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the same profession of faith made by Peter and the Samaritan woman before her. Jesus demonstrates that His words are efficacious when He commands Lazarus to rise and come out of the tomb. Like Peter and the Samaritan woman, Jesus has gently nudged Martha, leading her to a more perfect faith. Sufferings and privations are tools God sometimes uses to bring us to faith. In the second option for today s Gospel, John 12:20-33, the Greeks wish to speak to Jesus. Something about Jesus has drawn them to Him. In response, Jesus acknowledges that His Hour has come. The hour of His Passion has arrived and He is troubled. Rhetorically He asks, Should I say, Father save me from this hour? No, this is precisely why I came. Though reluctant to die, Jesus recognizes that our salvation can only be achieved through His death. He tells us that unless the grain of wheat dies, it remains a single grain; but if it dies, it produces great fruit. Trusting completely in the Father, Jesus submits Himself to the Father s care, knowing that God can restore life and exonerate His beloved in the same way He restored Isaac to Abraham. As Christians, we are called to submit to Our Father, trusting that as His beloved, He will exonerate and raise us to glory. Lent is a time to refocus on eternity, to set our priorities aright through prayer and self-sacrifice and to meditate on what God has done for us through Jesus passion. The burning candles serve as a constant prayer before the Lord, present in the Blessed Sacrament. Envelopes for you to have your intention remembered with one of these candles and prayed for ONE WEEK (Sunday to Sunday) are available in the Adoration Chapel.
