4 From one family in need: Saints Peter and Paul Giving Tree SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! My husband was out of work half of the year and this Christmas was going to be tight, but God has always put people in our lives when needed. You can t imagine how grateful I am for all that SSPP has done, there are no words To Do for Another is the Greatest Gift of All Once again, the response to our parish giving tree this Christmas season was truly overwhelming and heartwarming. You, the parishioners of Saints Peter and Paul, made this a much brighter Christmas season for over 127 families with children with special needs. Additionally, you brightened the Christmas of SSPP Transitional Housing Ministry families, over forty women and their children spending Christmas at Family Shelter Services, and many SSPP St Vincent DePaul families in need. On behalf of all of these families touched by your generosity...thank YOU. Saint Francis Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel Dear Eucharistic Adorers, There are now 12 Hours that are open (see page 13) at our St. Francis Adoration Chapel. We must keep this chapel open 24/7 for more reasons that we can all possibly pray for. Read the prayer petition book as you enter the chapel for just a few examples of how important this chapel is to our parishioners. As our prayer to St. Michael tells us, we are in a battle against evil and what a good victory this would be for satan to have this chapel close because not enough people cared. We need substitutes we need people to take one of the available hours. You, who know the power and strength of the Eucharist, have been sent to go out ask, tell or discuss with friends, neighbors and family about the Eucharist, the Mass and Confession. Carry commitment cards with you or send people to the parish website to sign up. Whatever it takes, let s keep our chapel active and prayer-filled, and our Lord loved 24 hours a day. First Look for Charity Catholic Chari es, Diocese of Joliet, along with 17 other chari es, will benefit from First Look for Charity, the official kick-off to the Chicago Auto Show. January 24, pm in the Ministry Center Contact Paulette Shea at for more info. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authori es, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. ~Ephesians 6:12 We Need Your Help! Please prayerfully consider joining our Saints Peter and Paul volunteers to offer an hour of prayerful witness outside of Planned Parenthood on Friday, January 18th. We have volunteers in one-hour shi s from 7am- 2pm every third Friday. Your prayers on the sidewalk outside this abor on clinic help support the efforts of pro-life sidewalk counselors to offer abor on-bound mothers the help they need to choose life. Your prayers help open those women s hearts to life. They may even help convert those working in the abor on clinic. Pray in whatever fashion suits you Scripture reading, the Rosary, interior prayer, hymns, etc., but pray quietly, to be heard by God and His angels, not passersby. Offer prayers for the abor on-bound women in the clinic. Pray for their babies. Pray for the clinic staff to be converted. Pray for any pro-life counselors who are there. If you see a specific woman entering the clinic, pray for her and whoever has brought her to the clinic that day. Please call Jane Fonner at or her at janecfonner@comcast.net for more informa on, or to let her know you are available this month. We can all call upon God to grant us power over the evil of abor on. This month s topic: A Season for Everything Scripture reminds us, there is an appointed time for everything. Caregiving too is an ever-shifting period of loss and growth, solitude and rebirth. Our Catholic faith helps us recognize this ebb and flow, so we can embrace our purpose and direction. Be nourished. Transitional Housing Ministry Thank you! We would like to thank all of you at Saints Peter & Paul who have so graciously given of your time, talents, resources and prayers during 2018 to support the Transitional Housing Program. Not only have we received generous support through your financial giving, but parishioners have also donated many needed items, from clothing to cars. In addition, we have had a continuous number of 12 volunteer mentors who have met with and provided much needed counseling and support to our clients and their families. We have four families currently in the program who would have been otherwise homeless were it not for your support. Those families are tremendously grateful to all of you. From our clients and Ministry to all of you, thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do, and God bless you in For more information on the Transitional Housing Ministry and what we do, please contact Tom Dorn at or tdorn@sbcglobal.net. 11 Saint Vincent de Paul A Thank You to a Parish of Donors and Doers It is only with our heart that we can bring compassion, respect and devotion to the destitute and marginalized. It is only with a heart on fire with God s love that service can root us in the faith that in the poor we will see the face of Christ. The St. Vincent de Paul Conference (SVdP), of Saints Peter and Paul Church is truly blessed to have such generous parishioner support. Together, we were able to make both Thanksgiving and Christmas more enjoyable for many of our neighbors in need. More than ever before, the needy are close to all of us. At the Thanksgiving Day Mass, the Church was completely filled. Our pastor, Fr. Brad, had graciously agreed that the Thanksgiving Mass collection be given to SVdP to assist those in need in our community. We thank him for that commitment and thank you, Saints Peter & Paul parishioners, for your generosity. Your Giving Tree response with food & gas gift cards for SVdP enables us to provide additional help to those we assist throughout the year. We and the families helped thank those parish families who sponsored families for SVdP this Christmas. We also thank the Knights of Columbus who donated 72 new warm children s winter jackets, for the fourth consecutive year. Because of your overwhelming generosity, SVdP was able to provide this holiday season, from Thanksgiving to Christmas, the following: 41 families received Christmas gifts for their children. 549 families and seniors received food gift cards and meals that provided about 2,000 meals for them from Thanksgiving to Christmas. All of that is in addition to the regular assistance SVdP provides families and individuals monthly with necessities such as rent, mortgage, utilities, auto expenses, medications, gas gift cards and Pace bus passes to help them get to work and their doctor appointments. You are a Parish of doers. Without your continued financial support, your SVdP Conference would not have been able to fulfill its mission to help the needy in our community. As you place your gifts for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul s continued work, know that you are a sign of God s love to those who are suffering, and you give them reason to believe and to trust. Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-toperson service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and its patron, Saint Vincent de Paul. Call Barb at or blandiak@gmail.com. The intentions will be published in the bulletin.
