A Preaching Life Go into all the world and preach the Gospel. Use words only if necessary. (popular author) Wanda never sought money or fame but her life was rich. She treasured her family, her friends, and her church. So began last Sunday s funeral service for Wanda Lowe. Wanda s way of life was not complicated. Plain, straight forward, a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, nana and friend she was intelligent and personable. She used her gifts and resources to make a difference in people s lives. For Wanda and Jake, every texture, twist and turn of their lives involved family and church. As her kids grew, Wanda served in the nursery, VBS, children s ministry, and youth group. She was instrumental in the work of Shalom Singers organizing a booster group to ensure adequate resources without taxing the church. She seamlessly interwove her God-given gifts and God-given offspring. When the kids flew the nest, she and Jake poured their lives into Senior ministry serving the Lord by enriching the lives of friends and peers with God s grace. Again, it was not complicated they were simply matching their gifts with community needs, organizing activities and excursions that fit needs. God s grace flowed through Wanda with a gift of hospitality. She was a gracious and delightful hostess; her home was always open at times she hosted the entire youth group. A sign on her refrigerator door reads, OPEN 24 HOURS, NANA S KITCHEN where memories are made and grandkids are spoiled. Grandson Adam reflected that he was always at Nana s after all, he was the first. But there s Jordan who spent so many summers with Nana Nana and the old folks after all, she is the only granddaughter. Jordan, Adam, Andrew, and TJ were shaped by their Nana s tender care and affirming heart. God s simple grace through Wanda has not stopped. Her legacy is not the past; it s the continuance of life through Cathe, Tim, Steve, their spouses, along with Adam, Andrew, Jordan and TJ.And, of course, first great grandkid Wayland. Wanda was in many ways a rebel at heart Why else would a talented, smart, pretty little angel marry a non-baptist fellow named Jake? She was determined and strong, like the women in Steel Magnolias a free thinker and good Baptist who tamed and trained her man and made him something great. The gospel according to Wanda is heard not so much through religious banter, well defined doctrines or half baked notions of God that divide us. Rather, Wanda s gospel flows through a life of love. For God so loved the world Someone remarked, I have known Wanda for a long time and I have observed her to be the most religious person I know, but she never says a word about it. School starts in Washington County on August 9 th. As in the past, the Friends of Audrey & Jill WMU Circle is working with other churches to provide school supply bags to Stone Soup Food Pantry (SSFP) to be given out to customers with children as they pick up their food. We would appreciate your help by either providing some of the items listed or providing a cash (check) donation and we will do the shopping. We will then assemble the bags and get them delivered to SSFP in time for them to be distributed before the first week of school. Thank you for your past support and we look forward to your support again this year.
