1 Volume XXXV, No. 1 The Banner January 5, 2010 Happy New Year And help us celebrate 100 years! Watch the Banner for the upcoming events!
2 JANUARY 10, :00am Worship A Different Kind of Power Acts 8:14-17 Isaiah 43:1-7 6:00pm Vespers Master of the Sea Isaiah 43:1-7 Phrases from Parke... I hope your new year 2010 is off to a happy start. The Hokie fans are rightfully proud of the good football season they had. This Hurricane football fan is looking forward (once again) to next season. The last regular season game in 2010 will be a good one! (VT vs. the U ) Maybe the weather will be better in Miami. I want express my thanks to the congregation for your numerous gifts and holiday remembrances. Margaret and I are so blessed to be in Abingdon and serving with so many wonderful people. The many cards, food, gifts and Christmas goodies were gratefully received and heartily enjoyed! I want to thank each of you most of all for the wonder filled worship experiences you were a part of creating throughout the Advent and Christmas season. You are a special congregation and it remains a joy and privilege to be your Minister of Music and Worship. I look forward to the many ways we will celebrate the church s Centennial Year together. This is a great time of year to join a choir. We would love to have you join us. The Sanctuary Choir meets each Wednesday at 7:00pm. The Hearts of Gold meet every Monday at 10:00am. Our new hymnals should be here in March. We are very close to raising all the funds needed to purchase our hymnals. We will continue to receive gifts for hymnals in honor or in memory of someone through the month of January. Please do not delay in turning in your orders. Mark your calendars for a special regional Celebrating Grace Hymnal premier event at First Baptist Church Knoxville on Sunday night February 28. We will be taking the coach and vans. Plan to join us for a very special night of worship and celebration. It is going to be an exciting year. See you Sunday, singing God s song, Parke
