2 OCTOBER 10, :00am Worship Meeting the Minimum Luke 17:11-19 Jeremiah 29:1, 4-7 6:00pm Church Family Picnic Hosted by Council of Deacons From Your Pastor... Thirteen! That s how many days are left until our big Centennial Finale! Folks are making their final plans: calling ahead to make sure a relative has an extra bed, getting the car serviced, and dragging out some of those old keepsakes to remind you of your time at Abingdon Baptist Church. We ve been celebrating since the beginning of the year but looking forward to this occasion for years. After all, how many times do you get to celebrate a 100 th anniversary of anything these days? I suppose what makes our Centennial Celebration so meaningful is that this one is more than just recognition of a milestone, a mark of completion, or a reward for long suffering. The centennial anniversary of a church is about remembering all the ways that God has moved in us over the years. The memories of friends in fellowship are wonderful but the more important issues are: Did we meet God? Did we see God? Did we know God more intimately than ever before? Did we learn to depend on God? Did we help someone hear the voice of God? Have we born witness to the presence and power of Christ s Spirit among us? As we contemplate these matters, I think we will find much to celebrate. Christ has indeed been moving in us these 100 years and I have every confidence that Christ will be moving in us even more in the next 100 years. I hope to see you at the SWVHEC on October 16 as we prepare for the next chapter in the life and ministry of Abingdon Baptist Church. I can t wait to see you Sunday! Your pastor and friend, Steve Deacon Sub-Committees... The Council of Deacons Sub-Committees have been formed and the following are chairing these committees: Administrative: Kenneth Bailey Property: Garland Blevins Finance: George Strong Outreach: Carol Clifton

I know it seems a long time but we are now taking names for those people who would like to go to Winston Salem, NC on Thursday, December 2 to enjoy the Candle Tea 2010 at Historic Old Salem. It is an annual event and will include Moravian coffee and sugar cake, viewing of Nativity Set, Christmas carols, demonstration of making of bees wax candles and more of the Moravian customs. We will probably take the Coach that will accommodate twenty-six people. We will leave by 9 am and have lunch on the way. We should be back by 5 pm. Please call in names that are interested so we can make reservations soon. This is only available two weekends in December therefore, we need to reserve a spot. We plan to go regardless of number. Centennial weekend is rapidly approaching. If you have not made reservations for the dinner on Saturday, October 16, please do now so the caterer will know how many. If you did not receive an invitation, be sure to let church office know immediately. Mail does get misplaced sometimes. wanda
