The Sanctuary Choir is beginning work on our music for the Lent & Easter season. This year we will be combining with several other local churches (Abingdon & Bristol) to present The Seven Last Words of Christ by Theodore Dubois. The mass choir and soloists will be accompanied by a small chamber orchestra, organ, and harp. Over thirty years ago Abingdon Baptist presented this classic work. We have this work in our music library and have plenty of scores for anyone who would like to join us. We will be rehearsing the cantata on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm along with music for our Sunday services. Now is a great time to join the sanctuary choir. Dubois wrote this work in The text for this cantata, originally in Latin (from The Latin Vulgate) is taken directly from scripture. We will perform the work in English and you will recognize the last statements of Christ from the cross and well as other scriptures set to music which amplify and provide a context for Christ s paroles (French). The performance will be at a church in Bristol on Good Friday, April 18. More details will follow as arrangements are finalized. Mark your calendars today. You will want to be sure to attend this musically dramatic and profound depiction of the crucifixion. See you Sunday, Singing God s song, Parke Neighborly Compassion... We are so fortunate to have such good neighbors around us in Abingdon. What would we do without them? Especially for parking on Sunday. Many of us enjoy the convenience of parking on the west side of the church near Chicken Little. It is but a short walk to get into the education building. On days other than Sundays, however, Chicken Little depends on that very limited parking for their patrons. Let s try and be good neighbors by using our parking on the east side of the church the rest of the week.
