Thank you Mac & Carol for hosting our picnic and for your famous banana splits. I don t know about the ingredients that went with each banana but somehow I lost weight! It was also a treat to enjoy the music of Carol Clifton & Jimmy Fleenor s clarinet. What a perfect evening. I also want to thank all those who have hosted a 2011 DownHome either at their house or at the Abingdon Market Pavilion: John & Alma Blankenship, Julia Childers, Mike Overstreet, Irene Meade, Richard & Sue Foil, Garland & Louise Blevins, Curtis & Vicki Burkett, John & Louise Crigger, Jake & Shirley Turner, R.W. & Jane Hilt, Larry & Rose Payne, and many others who assisted these folks. I cannot think of a better way to spend a summer Sunday evening Thank you! Our weekly graded choirs and mission groups began on Wednesday, August 31 st at 5:30 sharp. Don t be late or you will miss something special! Supper is served each week starting at 5:00pm. The Big Picture enrollment event was a great success! We had several new faces and lots of fun as the children signed up for choirs & missions groups last Wednesday night. Many thanks to the choir leaders for their hard work in preparing such a delightful and colorful evening. The Hearts of Gold welcomes Glenda Mayfield as our newest member. The Sanctuary Choir also welcomes Dennis & Stacey Crouse and Alana Simmons (they started singing with us back in June). The Sanctuary Choir is rehearsing on Wednesdays. Come join us! We will have a Christmas Party soon to preview our Christmas music. See you Sunday, singing God s song, Parke ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just wanted to thank you for participating in the food bank s peanut butter drive and collecting peanut butter to take to Faith in Action. Churches in the area have collected over 2,000 pounds of peanut butter this year to help feed those in need. That means over 2,000 hungry people will receive jars of peanut butter! 5 A Word of Thanks... The Friends of Audrey would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their generosity in donating school supplies and cash for the Pencil Project. We filled 100 bags of school supplies that were handed out in August at Stone Soup Food Pantry when clients came in to pick up their food. Other churches added another 250+ bags, which were all distributed. In addition, Abingdon Baptist provided a LARGE box of additional supplies including items for teachers to each Washington County elementary school. We can't begin to say how much your love and gifts have helped and will help Washington County school children. Thank you so much for your continued support of this major mission project. We also thank everyone who helped bag and box these school supplies. The Friends of Audrey Gifts... An update on our importance in the mission of Ecumenical Faith in Action: The mission of Ecumenical Faith in Action is to assist our neighbors whose circumstances leave them struggling with poverty or crisis. It is our response to scripture that declares we must feed the hungry, clothe the poor, and love our neighbor. Our church has been involved with this ministry for many years not only with financial support, but with our hands and our hearts. The simple act of bringing food to the church shows our individual love for our neighbors. Our commitment to serve in the pantry, or to drive someone to medical treatment, or to sit across from a family in crisis and hear their story allows us to put hands and feet into action in obedient response to our Lord. With our help, EFIA provided direct services to the community valued at $2,276,777 last year. Some form of assistance is provided to more than 3,000 individuals every month. Most importantly, there are many other priceless services provided by this ministry to which we cannot attach a dollar value volunteer caretaking and transportation to medical appointments, financial and other counseling, the services of Crossroads Medical Mission, referrals to other community resources, volunteer placement and job readiness training. And we can never put a price on the benefits to one s soul of volunteering and of witnessing His miracles unfold right before us as we toil in this most blessed of missions.

6 During the month of September, the Joanna Maiden Owens S. S. Class is challenged to bring items for the Stone Soup Food Pantry. So, please help by bringing at least one food item each time you come to church. Collection baskets are at each entrance.
