Tony Roberts and the Ministry Committee of the Council of Deacons need your help. Please call or see Tony ( ) and let him know where you can assist that day: Greeters, Set-up, Clean-up, Food Preparation, Waiters for tables, Decorations and Table Hosts. With many folks pitching in we are going to have a great day to thank our law enforcement personnel.

Adaptability, Growing Old and the Ancient Paths (Part 1) By Pastor Mike - IIM This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls (Jeremiah 6:16 NIV) The word radical comes from the Latin radicalis meaning having roots. It means Arising from or going to a root source; basic. Much has changed during the past 50 years. Look around. Many of us are feeling a deep sense of loss; so much is missing a loved one, an ideal, a way of thinking, innocence, an ability, the freedom to go and do, etc. We are tired; we re left with a void an aching empty spot. We cry; we pout; we get depressed. We want to go back to familiar, more predictable and manageable times and places. What s left? We are not alone. The American Church has landed in the middle of such a quandary. Statistics say that 80-90% of churches are plateaued or in decline. At times, the mood in congregations borders depression. So much of what we ve invested our lives in buildings, properties, programs have become empty shells. Our kids don t want them and we don t want to give our stuff to those who do. What shall we do? One thing I ve noticed about people who do well in old age: they adapt. Adaptability is perhaps the single greatest predictor of graceful aging. Whatever comes, an adaptable person moves forward. Like new wineskins, their flexibility facilitates a fit for any new reality. When a thing is lost or taken, they don t lose hope. On the contrary, they seek, knock, and ask until another is found. In so doing, they remain useful and content. Such people challenge and inspire us. They are not bitter or sour. They see life from the balcony meaning, they see the BIG picture and they know the heavy stakes involved. Since those things are true about people, what about churches? What kind of churches challenge and inspire? What are the radical roots of Jeremiah s ancient paths? How might a person or church walk in them and find rest?
