Dear Abingdon Baptist Family, I am often distressed at the way we believers and unbelievers alike, tend to pigeon-hole each other based on nothing more than our own personal perspective. The thing about perspective is that it s just that: personal. The way you see things is only the way you see things, nothing more. We re willing to hang everything (relationship, reputation, witness, and even salvation) on a truth that no one can be sure is true. A man is flying in a hot-air balloon and realizes that he's lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts: "Excuse me - can you tell me where I am?" The man replies: "Sure - you're in a hot-air balloon, hovering 30 feet above this field." "You must work in Information Technology," the balloonist says. "I do," the man replies. "How did you know?" "Well," says the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but it's of no use to anyone." The man below says, "You must work in business." "I do," the balloonist replies, "How did you know?" "Well," says the man, "you don't know where you are, or where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault." Careful, you might not see everything from where you stand. During the month of July, Feeding America Southwest Virginia is sponsoring a peanut butter food drive called Peanut Butter from Heaven, which will allow them to distribute more peanut butter to families in need. Peanut butter is vitally important to the hungry because it is not only a good source of protein, but also helps satisfy hunger when one is short on food. All items will be delivered at the end of the month to Stone Soup Food Pantry. Please bring some peanut butter when you come to church during July! From the Heart...
