1 Second Sunday of Easter April 2-3, 2005 Sunday Lectionary Readings This Week's Readings: Acts 2: 42-47; 1 Peter 1: 3-9; John 20: Next Week's Readings: Acts 2: 14, 22-33; 1 Peter 1: 17-21; Luke 24: Scripture Reflection Oh, if only I could have seen Christ when he lived and been close to him! I would have accepted him with all my heart! People say such things because they think that belief was easier long ago than it is now. And so, the story of Thomas in today's gospel strikes home in the hearts of many Christians, because it reveals human nature so well. Thomas cannot believe on the basis of his colleagues' words; he had to experience it for himself before he could believe. And he does. Yet, Christ does not give credit so much to Thomas as he does to those who do not have direct experience. "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." Or, as the second reading says: "Although you have not seen him, you love him; even though you do not see him now, yet [you] believe in him." What does it take for us to believe in him with all our hearts? What kind of "evidence" do we need? What difference would it make in our lives if we loved him with every ounce of our being? What difference would it make in our world? Let us pray for our deceased: Serge Poyo, grandfather of Noel Poyo. Clock Tower Restoration Announced to Our Neighbors The next phase of restoring our churchs clock and bell tower is to consult with our neighbors about a schedule for tolling the hours, ringing the bells for weddings and funerals, etc. The Corpus Christi-Jenkins Memorial Historical Trust, entrusted with the restoration project, will present its plans to the Mount Royal Improvement Association on Tuesday, April 5, at 8 p.m. in Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church Hall (Park & W. Lafayette Aves.). Our Bolton Hill parishioners are particularly invited to join us in proclaiming our news! Pastoral Council Elections Pastoral Council elections are coming up in a few weeks. The Pastoral Council advises the pastoral staff and takes initiative on many issues regarding the ministry of Corpus Christi. We will be electing four parishioners to serve on the Council for two-year terms (which may be extended to three years at the option of the member). Please consider submitting your name or another parishioner's name for this very important work for the Corpus Christi community. Names can be given to any member of the Pastoral Council, Fr. Rich, or Pat Fosarelli. Sister Parish There will be a Sister Parish meeting for all interested parties on Monday, April 11 th, at Sr. Patti Ann's house. Call for more information. Hellos & Good-byes Join us in offering a warm welcome to the newest members of our parish community: Stephen Breit & Julie Farrell-Breit; Kevin Smith & Michelle Walsh; and Chris & Laura Doherty & Family. We bid farewell to Sr. Jane Scanlan, who has been a parishioner for many years, serving as a teacher in our Religious Education program and as a liturgical minister. Sr. Jane has moved her residence and has become active in a parish closer to home. We will miss her.
