Eucharistic Holy Hour Please join us this Wednesday, May 24, at 7:00 p.m. in church for Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration, beginning with brief prayer and song. There will then be time for quiet, personal prayer, reading, meditation, contemplation, and adoration. We will conclude with Benediction at 8:00 p.m. All are welcome! Baptism Preparation If you are anticipating the birth/baptism of an infant/ young child, please note that participation in a Baptism Evening of Preparation is required prior to scheduling the baptism. Attendance is encouraged early in the pregnancy. Godparents are also encouraged to attend. Our next Baptism Evening of Preparation will be Thursday, June 1, at 7:00 p.m. Please call our Parish Office, , if you plan to attend. Interested in Becoming Catholic? If you or someone you know has no church home, or is attending Annunciation but is not Catholic, consider extending an invitation to this individual to give some thought to becoming Catholic. If you or someone you know is interested in finding out more about the possibility of becoming Catholic, please contact Father Grogan or Dr. Sandi Chakeres at the Parish Office, Are You Celebrating A Significant Wedding Anniversary In 2017? Married couples celebrating a significant wedding anniversary (25, 40, 50, 60, 65, 70, 75) in 2017 are invited to request a congratulatory certificate from Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr. These certificates will be distributed here at Annunciation Parish in July. Please visit the Office for Marriage & Family Life at or call x2653 before June 23 to request your certificate. CLIFTON, CINCINNATI, OHIO Your Prayers Are Requested Please remember to keep in your prayers those of our Parish Community who are unable to be with us at our Sunday Eucharist: Freddie Domineack, Bertie Domineack Harper, Patterson Harper, Joseph Chaky, Jim San Filippo, Mary Thomas, Cheryl Walz, Vince Frasher, David Koenig, Raul Florez, Anna Heuck, Henrietta Bernard, Pam Martini, Molly Minihan, Tom Vonderahe, and Patricia & Harvey Sander. If you know of someone else who should be included in this list, please call the Rectory. Also, your prayers are requested for the safety, and safe return, of all the men and women serving our country in the armed forces. Annunciation School Faith Formation News Our weekly celebration of Morning Prayer with students and faculty, preschool-8th grade, is Thursday, May 25th at 9:30 a.m. in church. During the Easter Season, we will also be celebrating the Easter Procession during Morning Prayer. Each class, grades 1-8, has made an Easter Season Banner for the celebration. All are welcome to join us for prayer! For more information about Faith Formation at Annunciation School, please contact our Director of Faith Formation, Dr. Sandi Chakeres at Pray for Persecuted Christians! The murder of at least 44 Coptic Christians by ISIS terrorists as they worshiped on Palm Sunday is a grim and tragic reminder that a new age of persecution and martyrdom of Christians is upon us. The need for prayer in this darkness is urgent. For an end to senseless violence, murder and destruction; for our Coptic brothers and sisters in Christ whose lives have been shattered by recent bombings in their churches in Egypt; for their families, for the Pope of the Coptic Church, Tawardros, and for all Christians who suffer martyrdom because of their faith. We pray to the Lord. Our Lady of Perpetual help, pray for us! Vocation View The Spirit of truth is within you. You are not alone. Reflect on how God is calling you at this time in your life. (John 14:15-21) Our Condolences Our condolences to the family and friends of long time Annunciation parishioner, Lucy Richardson, who died May 4th. Eternal rest grant unto Lucy, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in eternal peace. Please keep the Richardson family in your thoughts and prayers. To Help You Prepare For Next Sunday: Acts 1:12-14; 1 Peter 4:13-16; John 17:1-11a
2 SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 21, 2017 Giving a Blessing There are occasions in our human experience that suddenly touch us and we grope for words to mark the moment: A friend lies gravely ill, a family member embarks on a journey, a child is afraid of the dark and cannot sleep, a daughter reaches menarche, a relative announces a wonderful promotion, a spouse retires from a long career... Perhaps the words we are searching for and the gesture that would express our hope for that person could take the form of a blessing. The Celts have along tradition of bestowing blessings. Bestowing a blessing is a gentle gift. You can put your hands on the head or shoulders of the other and say a simple prayer. Mention your hope for that person and ask for the necessary graces. If you saved blessed water from the Easter Vigil and have it stored away in a bottle for just such occasions, use some in a sprinkling rite. It reminds us of our baptism and affirms our identity and purpose. We can feel free to devise a blessing with our own words or we can learn some blessings from the Celts: Grace upwards over thee, Grace downwards over thee, Grace of graces without gainsaying, Grace of Father and of Lord. The joy of God be in thy face, Joy to all who see thee; The circling of God be keeping thee, Angels of God shielding thee. God bless to you this day, God bless to you this night; Bless, O bless, Thou God of grace, Each day and hour of your life; Bless, O bless, Thou God of grace, Each day and hour of your life.
