A reception for the graduates and their families will follow the Mass in Conlan Hall. Graduates are asked to RSVP before May 29 th by calling the office at PRIESTLY ORDINATIONS On Saturday, June 9th, at 10:00 AM in Saint Peter s Cathedral, Scranton, the Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, D.D., J.C.L., Bishop of Scranton, will ordain Reverend Mr. Edward J. Casey and Reverend Mr. Ryan P. Glenn to the Order of the Priesthood. All of the faithful in the Diocese of Scranton are invited and encouraged to participate in this solemn Mass. Please pray for Deacon Edward J. Casey and Deacon Ryan P. Glenn as they prepare for their Priestly Ordination. Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Bishop Bambera wishes to invite the faithful of the Diocese to join him as he leads a pilgrimage on Saturday, September 22nd. The pilgrimage is part of this year s commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Founding of the Diocese of Scranton. If you wish to attend, please call the Rectory to register. We, today, still have those who speak in different tongues, but through our faith - with the help of the Holy Spirit - we can all understand the message of love and compassion and work together as one body in Christ. We encourage you to spend quiet time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament throughout the week with a special prayer intention in mind. Just pick up a card after your visit to Church and send it off to the one in your prayer. The cards may be used on First Fridays by those attending Eucharistic Adoration. Think gospel! Please make room for your neighbor in Church and slide to the center of the pew.

On Sunday, May 20 th at 6:00 P.M. in Bergan Hall, we are inviting all youth from 7 th thru 12 th grades to bring their ideas and join a discussion on building a youth program at St. Ignatius. Ms. Shannon Kowalski, coordinator of youth programs for the Diocese of Scranton, and Father Mosley will facilitate this exchange of ideas. Actually, at an earlier meeting in April, it was suggested that we schedule a session for just the youth and ask them for their input. We are hoping that from this meeting, we will add an important component the youth of our parish and their ideas as we build a youth and family ministry. Calling our youth, 7 th thru 12 th Grades Bring your ideas. Bring your suggestions. But most importantly, please come! 4 C O M M U N I T Y G R O W I N G T O G E T H E R PIEROGI BOARD NEWS Having not made enough pierogi for Lent, we have been asked to make some for the Spring to be enjoyed at graduation parties, First Holy Communion parties, etc. We will be making pierogi on the following dates: Time: After the 7:30 AM Mass. Page 4 Monday, May 21 st Preparation Tuesday, May 22 nd Production (Farmer Cheese and Sweet Cabbage) Pierogi will be available for purchase on Production Days (May 15 th and May 22 nd ). Prices will remain at $8/dozen for Potato and $9/dozen for Farmer Cheese and Sweet Cabbage. Please note: Pierogi will NOT be available for sale until 12 noon on those days. We will try to produce more sweet cabbage pierogi than in the past, as these tend to sell out quickly. Please come and assist us in making these delicious treats. The more people who know what to do, the longer our pierogi tradition will be able to continue. Mary s Ministry has reserved tickets for the 3PM performance of Jesus at Sight & Sound Theatres, Lancaster, PA for Tuesday, September 25th. Our bus will leave St. Ann s Chapel at 8:30 AM and stop for lunch and shopping at Shady Maple Smorgasbord. We will leave from the show about 5:45 PM with a comfort stop enroute home. Since theatre seats will not be assigned until full payment is received, we are now accepting non-refundable trip payments so we can finalize our plans ASAP. Mary s Ministry will hold an emergency clothing collection at masses Memorial Day weekend. We will be accepting clean, gently used men's & women's summer, casual & work clothes. Also, school aged children's summer play clothes. Drop off dates will be Saturday, May 26, 3pm-6pm & Sunday, May 27, 9:30am- 1pm at Bergan Parish Center. Your donations would be greatly appreciated. LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR The Little Sisters of the Poor will be here the weekend of May 26h & 27th to request alms for the residents of Holy Residence. Thank you! MOTHER TERESA S HAVEN St. Ignatius Parish will once again be hosting Mother Teresa s Haven in Conlan Hall for two weeks in early June (June 4 17), and then again for one week in mid September (September September.) We are currently looking for different sponsor groups to plan, supply, and cook meals for each of the 21 nights across these two sessions. In addition, we welcome any individuals who can help support the work of Mother Teresa s Haven on any of the scheduled nights from helping with kitchen prep, to serving, to sharing fellowship with our guests, to dishwashing and cleaning up. We welcome and invite any food donations parishioners might be able to offer in support of this ministry. Breads and homemade desserts are especially welcome. 8 Page 8 ST. IGNATIUS PARISH HOLY NAME SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES 2018 Instructions: 1. Applicant must be a registered member of St. Ignatius Parish. Applications may be picked up at the Rectory. 2. All questions on the application must be answered. 3. Include a certified copy of your high school transcript indicating your courses for the first semester of the 12th grade. 4. The school Guidance Counselor or Principal needs to complete the appropriate portion of the application, including a description of the curriculum and grading system used, and indicate on the transcript those courses completed in the first semester of the 12th grade and in progress for the second semester. 5. CATHOLIC CHORAL SOCIETY SPRING CONCERT The annual spring concert of the Catholic Choral Society will be presented on Sunday, May 20th at 7:00 PM in St. Ignatius Loyola Church. The Choral Society will host the Hazleton Area High School Cougar Chorus directed by Kimberly Sharonoff, accompanist Ethan Mariano. The Catholic Choral Society, marking its 69th season, is composed of 50 members from both Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wayne, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties. Tickets are available from society members or by calling ; tickets are also available at the door. Adults-$10.00, senior and students-$8.00, children under 12 free. AED TRAINING With our Automatic External Defibrillators in place, the Knights of Columbus Assumpta Council 3987 is sponsoring training in use of these life saving devices. A Friend s and CPR Class is scheduled to take place the evening of Wednesday, June 20th in Conlan Hall at 6:00 PM. It is free of charge. American Heart Association s & Friends CPR is for people who wish to learn CPR but do not need a CPR course completion card to meet a job requirement. It is taught by certified instructors, and lasts approximately one hour. The course includes a short video AND supervised hands-on practice with mannequins and AED training devises similar to our AED s. Those completing the course will receive a reference book to take home. cpr.heart.org Ushers, and all of us serving and attending Masses and church activities are encouraged to attend. May we all continue to care for each in this important way. In order to ensure adequate equipment, staff and books, reservations must be made by calling the Rectory by June 10th.

9 BAPTISM Expectant and new parents are asked to participate in a seminar on Baptism. Please call the Rectory at Godparents are welcome to attend, though it is not required. Please call the rectory to register at your earliest convenience. The celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism is on the third Sunday of every month. MARRIAGE Congratulations! You are asked to contact one of the parish priests at least six months before the date of your marriage so that the appropriate preparations can be made for this special celebration. VISITATION OF THE SICK Please call the office for visitation of the sick at home, in the hospital, or health care facility.
