1 THE CHURCH OF S AINT I GNATIUS L OYOLA A ROMAN CATHOLIC C OMMUNITY INSPIRED BY THE TRADITION OF ST. IGNATIUS, S T. HEDWIG AND S T. MARY'S ANNUNCIATION PARISHES. e, the blended Catholic community of St. Ignatius Loyola, draw strength from Word and Sacrament, W especially in the celebration of the Eucharist. Modeling Christ s work, we embrace our commitment to God s call. We remain faithful to the shared acts of prayer, study and service. Together we extend Christ s hospitality to others and light the path of peace for generations to come. Knowing God is more important than knowing about God. Karl Rahner, S.J.

Your support is deeply appreciated. In recognition of our need to give, and the many needs of our church and parish, and in gratitude for God s gifts to us, we declare our willingness to return a portion of our Treasure to our parish, as part of our total Christian stewardship. Sunday Tithe $13, Easter $30, Priests $2, Total $47, This Week s Expenses $16, QUESTION OF THE WEEK Second Sunday of Easter - Following the example of Jesus Reading I Acts 4:32-35 (life of the Christians) Reading II 1 John 5:1-6 (belief in Jesus Christ) Gospel John 20:19-31 (appearance to the disciples) Key Passage Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul; no one claimed private ownership of any possessions; everything they owned was held in common. (Acts 4:32) Adult What could you do this week to inspire your family to resemble the early Christians more closely? Child What could you and your family do to help others who are in need? RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Wednesday, April 15th - First Communion Class potluck dinner and meeting. Information will be sent to the families. Thursday, April 16th - Confirmation parent meeting - 7:00 PM in Conlan Hall. All paperwork and Confirmation fee is due at this meeting. Sunday, April 19th - Grade 1 Family Morning/Class Mass. All grade 1 students, both private and public schools and their families are strongly encouraged to attend. The morning will begin at 9:15 AM in Conlan Hall. WE ARE THE MISSON - THE BISHOP S MESSAGE At all the Masses this weekend, Bishop Bambera will speak to all of us about planning for the future leadership of our parishes. While a priest pastor will be the norm, some parishes will have a deacon, religious, or lay person as parish coordinator. Included in this bulletin is an insert from the diocese that reviews this material. Please take the time to read this insert and discuss the Question for Reflection and Dialogue with your family and friends. Some of them may experience this new form of leadership in their parishes in the not too distance future. The collaboration of all parishioners is vital to those parishes that will experience this transition. W E E K L Y M E D I T A T I O N Belief in Jesus is the lesson in today s Gospel. Thomas believed - but only after he saw Jesus. There is no room for doubters here. Two millennia after Christ s death and resurrection, we, the Easter People - revel in joyful alleluias with each expression of faith - large or small. We people of faith, faced with a crisis, instantly turn to our God in prayer. How wonderful, how awesome is this intangible gift of God. Don t forget! Food Collection each and every weekend at the vestibules of Church and Chapel.

They should ask for presbyters of the church. They in turn are to pray over the sick, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. This prayer uttered in faith will reclaim the one who is ill and the Lord will restore them to health. (James 5:13-14) We recognize that basically sickness is dealing with alienation and fragmentation. Sick persons are truly cut off from the normal rhythms and people of everyday life. Their wholeness is dissipated, scattered, fragmented. The sacrament restores this wholeness by helping people grow spiritually through the sickness, to have in mind what Jesus had in mind: the whole person is to be saved, made better, holier, enter more deeply into the mystery of Christ s own suffering, death and resurrection. Therefore, our invitation reaches out to many members of our parish community, both young and old, who are dealing with various stages of serious sickness. It includes persons about to undergo surgery, sick children of an age to know what is going on, and mental illnesses as well. The anointing of the sick should not just be associated with death and dying. Because of this emphasis, the community is urged to be quite involved. This means not only family and friends, but also the parish. This is why we are encouraging a communal anointing in April. It will help all of us become more sensitized to the needs of the sick and their basic isolation. Everyone is welcome to come and provide encouragement. We need to give careful attention to parishioners with special needs; including shut-ins and those living at area Health Care facilities. You are invited to come and experience the healing power of God through the communal celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick on Wednesday, April 15th at 12:10 PM. Family members are encouraged to plan ahead and make transportation arrangements for your loved ones and friends. Lunch will be served after Mass in Conlan Hall at no cost. Please make reservations as soon as possible if you are joining us for lunch. Finally, if you can volunteer to be part of our hospitality team, please call the rectory at your earliest convenience; the Social Concerns Commission will help with the overall coordination.
