If you have not already done so, please make your pledge to help the thousands of people who will directly benefit from your caring support. This year, to allow us to update our records, everyone at Mass will be asked to complete the pledge form, whether or not they have made a pledge or intend to pledge. You are also invited to list your personal prayer intentions on the inside pledge form and to attend a special Mass of Thanksgiving to be held at St. Peter s Cathedral, Scranton, on Sunday, November 22, at 10:00 a.m. Your intention will be remembered at this Mass celebrated by Bishop Joseph C. The Altar Breads and Wine for this week are offered In Memory of Dorothy Mitchell as requested by Brother, Bob MASS OF REMEMBRANCE All parishioners are invited to attend and support our families who have lost someone special this past year at a Mass of Remembrance on Monday, November 2nd at 7:00 PM. This is also an opportunity for all parishioners to pray for the beloved deceased member of your families in a unique setting. Invitations will be mailed to family members of the deceased who have been buried from St. Ignatius Loyola Church during this past year. ALL SOULS ENVELOPES In your envelope packet for November, you will find an envelope for All Souls Day, November 2nd. This is a day set aside by the Church to especially remember our deceased loved ones. You are invited to write the names of your loved ones on the envelope and place an offering inside. These envelopes are kept on the altar during the month of November and are remembered in a special way by the celebrants of the Masses that month. THE MORE YOU KNOW--UNDERSTANDING OUR CATHOLIC FAITH This year at St. Ignatius Loyola we are renewing our focus on learning about our Catholic tradition. In addition to our regular Bible study sessions, we are adding two different monthly opportunities: The first Wednesday of each month (next session November 4th) from 7-8 PM Father Alex and a variety of speakers from our parish and the area will give 30 minute talks on some aspect of our faith, followed by a brief discussion. The second Wednesday of each month (next session November 11th) from 7-8 PM we will be watching installments of Fr. Robert Barron's 10-part Catholicism series. This DVD series is a recent critically-acclaimed look at the faith we hold as Roman Catholics. None of these talks are cumulative, so you can attend every month or only when it interests you. 4 C O M M U N I T Y G R O W I N G T O G E T H E R HALLOWEEN PARTY - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24TH The Holy Name Society will sponsor a Halloween Party on Saturday, October 24th at 6:30 PM in Conlan Hall. (Following the 5:30 PM Mass) All children of the parish are invited to attend. Children (of all ages) are welcome to wear their Halloween costume to the 5:30 PM Mass. TURKEY DINNER St. Mary s Byzantine Catholic Church, 321 Chestnut Ave., will hold a Turkey Dinner on Saturday, October 24th, serving from 5:00-6:30 PM (Take-outs from 4:00-5:00 PM). Adults-$10.00, children under 12 - $6.00. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Advance tickets are available by calling Roger at PIEROGIES Take orders and get ready to make our delicious pierogi for the Christmas season. This is a major fundraiser for the church and something everyone can do. There are many different jobs and we welcome all volunteers. Prep and production dates: Every Monday in November from 8:00 AM - Noon and every Tuesday in November from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM with the exception of Thanksgiving week. ORGAN RECITAL An organ recital will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, on Sunday, November 1st at 4:00 PM to celebrate the new Rodgers organ installed in the Church. The Popes Journey is the theme of the recital. The organist for the event is Sandor Kator, the musician who was the organist for the Papal Mass in Philadelphia. The recital is open to the public. BINGO Bingo will be held at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 1010 Hanover Street, Nanticoke on Sunday, November 1st. Doors open at 12:30 PM and the games begin at 1:45 PM. MARY S Glass and Plastic containers will not be allowed All other decorations will be allowed for two weeks at Easter, Mother s Day, Memorial Day, Father s Day and Christmas. At the end of the two-week period, all decorations not yet reclaimed will be removed from the Cemetery. Boxes of all types and urns must be among the articles removed. Planting of shrubs and trees within the Cemetery must be approved by the Superintendent. Shrubs, trees and decorations of any type which become unsightly or uncontrollable, shall be removed by the Cemetery at any time. The use of Vigil Lights will be permitted on the eve of All Souls Day, and for ten days thereafter. All stone, metal, and any other borders around monuments and/or memorials are prohibited. No planting around flat stones; no planting in back of tombstones; no planting beyond 6 inches in front of tombstones. No raising of flat stones or army markers above ground level.
