The children learned that all God s promises are Yes in Jesus! Our faithful God is with us, gives us life and hope and Jesus! Thank you and God Bless! CHILDREN S BULLETINS The Children s Bulletin is a weekly child friendly worksheet on the Gospel of the day. The Bulletins can be found in the back of the Church (on the food bank container). COMMUNION & CONFIRMATION PICTURES Communion and Confirmation pictures may be picked up at the rectory office at your earliest convenience. The office is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM and Sundays, 9:30 AM-Noon. A ROMAN CATHOLIC C OMMUNITY INSPIRED BY THE TRADITION OF ST. IGNATIUS, S T. HEDWIG AND S T. MARY'S ANNUNCIATION PARISHES. ALPHA ALPHA is a course that looks at the meaning of life and the path to happiness. ALPHA looks at Jesus Christ and who he is. We will begin on September 11th at 6:30 PM in Conlan Hall. ALPHA begins with a lite-meal, followed by a half-hour DVD and ends with a discussion of the video. All are welcome. The event is free of charge. Come as our guest. W e, the blended Catholic community of St. Ignatius Loyola, draw strength from Word and Sacrament, especially in the celebration of the Eucharist. Modeling Christ s work, we embrace our commitment to God s call. We remain faithful to the shared acts of prayer, study and service. W O R S H I P L I T U R G Y A N D P R A Y E R WEEKLY MEDITATION Grumbling seems to come as naturally to us as eating. There s one important difference. Eating is necessary for life; grumbling is not. As a matter of fact, if you want to remove contentment & serenity from life, grumbling is a sure way to do so. In the Old Testament today, God relieved the grumbling of the Israelites to Moses by providing manna & quail - heavenly bread & meat. In the New Testament, we learn that God sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, who Himself said I am the bread of life, & that we need never hunger or thirst again if we just believe in Him. Perhaps if we did so, we d have no reason to grumble either! In our daily quest for nourishment for our body & soul, may we ponder Jesus words in today s gospel. SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR FRANCISCAN WORKS- LIBERIA MISSION In recognition of our need to give, and the many needs of our church and parish, and in gratitude for God s gifts to us, we declare our willingness to return a portion of our Treasure to our parish, as part of our total Christian stewardship. Sunday Tithe $9, (445 Envelopes) This Week s Expenses $3, AUGUST 18TH & 19TH Franciscan Works currently operates Liberia Mission in West Africa. Founded in 2003, just as the Liberian civil war was ending, Liberia Mission began with six orphaned children. Today it is a vibrant, life-saving community of love, learning, work and prayer, with about 35 residents. Nearly 500 youths from surrounding villages attend St. Anthony of Padua Mission School or are funded to attend local High Schools. These are young people who would not otherwise have access to education, medical care, adequate food and shelter, and faith-formation. St. Michael the Archangel Church, located on the Mission, serves the school and community. A student-run farm and piggery are part of the vocational education the students receive. These children are learning to become future leaders in their families, communities and country. Much prayer, joy and hope is evident at Liberia Mission, even with the sorrow and hardships associated with the Ebola outbreak and the political and economic strife there. Many challenges remain. 3 Page 3 C O M M U N I T Y G R O W I N G T O G E T H E R CHILDREN S CLOTHING GIVEAWAY Church of Christ Uniting, 190 S. Sprague Ave., invites all to a Children s Clothing Giveaway. It will be held on Saturday, August 11th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Church Fellowship Hall. Selection includes clothing for back to school, infant to adolescent sizes, all season, school supplies and backpacks. Please be prepared to show school identification. SAVE THE DATE! The French Boys Choir, a group made up of 16 young men ages from France who sing all over the world will be touring the United States and are coming to St. Joseph Marello Church, 237 Williams Street, Pittston, PA, on Sunday, August 19th. PRAYER SHAWLS & LAP ROBES Handmade prayer shawls and lap robes are available at no charge from Mary s Ministry for those in need of support or comfort. Please contact the rectory or stop at Bergan Hall on Saturday afternoons if you wish to have one for yourself or someone else. Additional volunteers are always welcome to help make these gifts. If you do not already know how to knit or crochet, teachers are available to assist you and all supplies are furnished. Please call the rectory to register at your earliest convenience. The celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism is on the third Sunday of every month. MARRIAGE Congratulations! You are asked to contact one of the parish priests at least six months before the date of your marriage so that the appropriate preparations can be made for this special celebration. VISITATION OF THE SICK Please call the office for visitation of the sick at home, in the hospital, or health care facility. DEVOTIONAL LIFE The Rosary is prayed after the 7:30 AM Mass daily and before the 8:30 AM Mass on Sundays at the Chapel of St. Ann. Eucharistic Adoration is held the First Friday of the month at Saint Ignatius Church beginning at 12:45 PM concluding with Benediction at 4:00 PM. (September May) THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS This is a process the Catholic Church uses to bring adult members into the faith.
