All are welcome. This is for those who wish to explore the Catholic Faith more deeply. It is open to all - Non-Catholic and Catholic alike. It will look at basic Christianity and the person of Jesus Christ. The RCIA will explore basic and central Christian teaching. If you are interested in coming to understand Catholic Christianity and the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church, please join us. Many prayers to them as they begin their new life in Christ Jesus. We encourage you to spend quiet time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament throughout the week with a special prayer intention in mind. Just pick up a card after your visit to Church and send it off to the one in your prayer. The cards may be used on First Fridays by those attending Eucharistic Adoration. Think gospel! 4 CHRISTMAS MASS INTENTION ENVELOPES Special Christmas Mass Intention envelopes can be found in your monthly packets to remember both living and deceased family members and friends. Please write the names of your loved ones on the back of the envelope. The envelopes will be placed on the altar during all of the Christmas Masses to remember your intentions. Please place the envelopes in the collection basket. Thank you. Page 4 CHRISTMAS SACRIFICIAL GIVING A C H R I S T M A S G I F T T O Y O U R P A R I S H F A M I L Y Please remember we depend on your Christmas Offering for great help with our yearly expenses. With rising costs, increasing school subsidies, health insurance and utilities/ maintenance, it is critical everyone responds with generosity. Christmas income enables us to maintain all of our important ministries by offsetting a weekly deficit in our regular envelope income. May your gift be in proportion to all other Christmas expenditures. Let it be your first and most important gift. NEW PERMANENT DIACONATE CLASS The class will begin in August, If you feel a call from God, please contact Father McKernan. Any applicant must first be nominated by his pastor. Nominees must be at least 31 years of age and no older than 60. An undergraduate degree while preferred is not absolutely necessary - as long as he has a high school diploma (or GED) and is capable of collegelevel studies. If interested, please call soon. PROJECT ANDREW DINNER TO CONSIDER A VOCATION TO THE DIOCESAN PRIESTHOOD The dinner will be held on Thursday, December 28th at St. Peter s Cathedral in Scranton. There will be evening prayer at 5:30 PM, followed by dinner at the Diocesan Pastoral Center. Each young man must be at least 16 years of age. There will be numerous men from the Diocese discerning a possible vocation. Please call Father McKernan or Father Mosley. S E R V I C E H E L P I N G O T H E R S SOCKS FOR VETERANS AT CHRISTMAS St. Ignatius will be organizing a sock drive to benefit local veterans this Christmas season through the services of the Commission on Economic Opportunity. Donations of new socks to support our local veterans are most welcome. Collection of socks will begin at the back of the Church and Chapel on the weekend of December 16th and will continue through the Feast of the Epiphany on the weekend of January 6th. Christmas Masses Please see schedule on Page 1 All Masses will be offered for the Intentions Page 5 YOUTH MINISTRY After consultation with many people, especially the Parish Finance Council and the Parish Pastoral Council it was the strong opinion that there needs to be a re-structuring of our youth outreach. As things stand now and have been for a few years, there is more money going out in bills than coming in to the collections; and it is impossible to keep on this present course if our parish is to remain viable. I have already cut way back on expenses with maintenance and house-keeping for the rectory. Other things will be looked at in the course of the coming years. It was with the consultation of the last couple of pastors, and the advice of both Parish and Finance Councils, that I have made the following decision. St. Ignatius will no longer be able to sustain a paid youth minister. It is our hope to continue a FAMILY- YOUTH Ministry in the future, as we begin the New Year. On behalf of all the young members of our parish who have participated in youth ministry over the years, we thank all our former directors who gave of their time and talent to work with our young people. We especially thank Mrs. Jennifer Bale, our director for the past 15 ½ years. Her efforts to present youth ministry as service, spirituality, social and education have not gone unnoticed. May God bless her and all the young people who are part of this ministry. The young are vital to our parish community and we will be looking for new ways to help them (you) continue to explore and live their (your) faith. It is our hope that Jen will be able to continue to help with our parish outreach. In the New Year we hope to explore ways to continue to develop our family & youth participation in the life of St. Ignatius Parish. This is not so much an ending as a transition; and, I hope that many of our young families and youth will help to make St. Ignatius Loyola a community of disciples and a dynamic program where many young families will be involved with our Catholic faith. Father Joseph Mosley and I together with members of the Parish Pastoral Council hope to begin a dialogue for new directions. We hope to have a family-youth council of young adults and youth to help in this new direction. We have been in touch with the Diocese of Scranton, the Parish Life Office and Youth Ministry Office and they will help us in our reorganization of our - Youth Ministry Program Please keep this in your prayers as we move ahead on this in Father McKernan Pastor submitted on the Mass Intention Envelope.

The Knights of Columbus, along with Pro-Life Representatives, will offer prayer intentions during the Mass for a greater respect of all Human Life and to end abortion. January is Respect Life month as abortion was legalized, January 22, Since then, upwards of 60 million innocent unborn children have been aborted. Father Nash, Pastor, warmly invites all to attend and to pray for the most vulnerable of Human Lives, those with disabilities, the ill, and the unborn. Thank You! Now and throughout the month of December, our Food Pantry is requesting donations of personal items in addition to our usual food and monetary donations. Requested items include: toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, mouthwash, soap, shower gel, body lotion, deodorant, hand cream, hand sanitizer, shampoo, conditioner, disposable razors, shaving cream, toilet paper and tissues. Regular and travel size items are welcome. Please place the items in the food collection bins at the Church and Chapel. Thank you for your continuous support of our Food Pantry. IS YOUR CHILD STRUGGLING WITH HANDWRITING? Misericordia University Occupational Therapy program is offering an occupational therapy group designed to help preschool aged and school aged children (4-8 years of age) improve their handwriting for school. During this weekly group, children will be engaged in carefully designed play based activities to improve their fine motor and handwriting skills. Dr. Orley Templeton, OTR/L along with 4 Masters degree students from the Occupational Therapy Program will be running the group. This program will run Thursdays from January 25th to April 26th. We will offer two group times: 2:30-3:30 PM or 3:30-4:30 PM. We ask all family members, friends, or care givers to please contact the Rectory with names of homebound and nursing home parishioners who should be added to our list to be remembered. Eucharistic Ministers serving the homebound and nursing homes are asked to pick up their flowers for Christmas distribution after the Masses this weekend in the sacristy. CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS PARTY The Holy Name Society will sponsor its Annual Children s Christmas Party today, Sunday, after the Noon Mass in Conlan Hall. Refreshments will be served and each child will receive a toy along with a visit from Santa. ALPHA Alpha is to help you know Jesus Christ and explore the meaning of life. It will begin on Tuesday, January 9th. If you are interested in participating or volunteering to help, please call the Rectory.
