L E N T F R I D A Y A D O R A T I O N A N D H O L Y H O U R Each Friday of Lent, the church will be available for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the afternoon from the end of 12:10 Mass until Stations at 5:30 PM. Consider making a Holy Hour during this time. Prayer guides and supplemental material will be available for your use to guide you in praying before the Blessed Sacrament. F R I D A Y S T A T I O N S O F T H E C R O S S This traditional Lenten exercise will be held each Friday of Lent at 5:30 PM followed by Benediction. E V E N I N G P R A Y E R Each Sunday of Lent, we will celebrate Christian Prayer in song at 7:00 PM. A new format will allow for greater participation. This week we welcome Deacon Florian Gyza from St. Faustina s Parish, Nanticoke who will be our celebrant and homilist. C O N F E S S I O N S The Light Is On For You - Mondays of Lent from 5:30-7:00 PM. St. Ignatius and all the parishes in the Diocese of Scranton will be open for individual confessions. We will still hold our regular Saturday confessions. R E G U L A T I O N S F O R L E N T In recognition of our need to give, and the many needs of our church and parish, and in gratitude for God s gifts to us, we declare our willingness to return a portion of our Treasure to our parish, as part of our total Christian stewardship. Sunday Tithe $16, This Week s Expenses $4, The following fast and abstinence regulations are observed: Good Friday, April 3, is a day of fast and abstinence. Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. All Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday are to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and on all Fridays during Lent. All Catholics over 18 years of age to the beginning of their 60th year are bound to the obligation of fasting. Those bound by this rule may take only one full meal and two smaller meals unless dispensed or excused. Lenten Reminders Lent is a time for sacrifice and for spiritual renewal as we reflect upon our baptism and the call given to each of us to walk as disciples of the Lord. As faithful followers of Jesus, we are traditionally encouraged to honor the sacred season of Lent by embracing the three pillars of Lenten observance: Almsgiving generously giving to those in need Fasting practicing self-discipline and self-denial Prayer reading, hearing and reflecting on the Word of God F A M I L Y T O F A M I L Y L E N T E N P R O J E C T Since the 2000 census, the poverty rate for children under 18 in the United States has almost doubled. Today, 29.6% of children in the Wyoming Valley are living in poverty. Our hope is for our families to help those families in need. Beginning next weekend, containers will be placed in the back of the Church and Chapel. Save your change - help our needy families! All monies collected will be given to the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen and the Ollie s Dinner for Kids Program. Don t forget! Our Environment Team is hoping to make collages with the pictures you provide and display them within the church. We kindly ask that you submit pictures of your family. Families look different from one to the next; large and small, with two parents, single parents, children, aunts and uncles, grandparents and couples to name a few. Our parish community is made up of wonderful families and we want to celebrate all of them throughout the Easter season. Keep in mind that pictures cannot be returned, so be sure it is a copy. Over the next couple of weeks, kindly bring them to Mass and place them in the designated basket at the entrance of the church and chapel. Thank you to those who have already submitted a picture! ATTENTION HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS, CARE GIVERS & EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS Mary s Ministry will be distributing Easter flowers Holy Week to our parishioners currently in nursing homes or homebound. We ask all family members, friends, or care givers to please contact the Rectory at with names of homebound and nursing home parishioners who should be added to our list to be remembered. Eucharistic Ministers serving the homebound and nursing homes are asked to pick up their flowers for Easter distribution after Noon on Friday, March 27th at the Rectory or after Masses on March in the Sanctuary. It is time to redouble our efforts to committing and following God s will for us. It is not too late to start. Today s readings urge us to take action. We are the beneficiaries of Jesus great merciful sacrifice. Can we embrace the church s invitation to increase prayer, take part in the sacrament of reconciliation, extend charity to others and continue our disciplines of fasting and almsgiving? We encourage you to spend quiet time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament throughout the week with a special prayer intention in mind. Just pick up a card after your visit to Church and send it off to the one in your prayer. The cards may be used on First Fridays by those attending Eucharistic Adoration. Think gospel! Please make room for your neighbor in church and slide to the center of the pew.

4 CHRISM MASS All the faithful of the Diocese are invited to attend the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Scranton, on Tuesday, March 31st at 4:00 PM. At this Mass priests from throughout the Diocese will renew their priestly promises before the Bishop, and the oils to be used for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick and Holy Orders will be blessed. Participation in the Chrism Mass is a beautiful way to pray for and support the priests of the Diocese. ATTENTION - EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS, LECTORS & SERVERS If you wish to be scheduled for Holy Week or Easter, please call the Rectory by March 15th with your preference. Also, if you desire any days off for April or May, please call those days in also. Thank you for your cooperation. ADULT CATHOLICS IN NEED OF THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION St. Ignatius Loyola Parish will begin classes for any adult Catholic who has been baptized but not confirmed. In order to be a Godparent for Baptism or Sponsor for Confirmation, one needs to be confirmed. We would like to begin the classes soon, but would meet on the day/evening that is most convenient for those who would like to attend. If interested, please contact Tony Butel at , Ext. 3. Confirmation with Bishop Bambera is Monday, May 11th. JEANNE R. BUTCHER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD The Jeanne R. Butcher Memorial Scholarship Award was established by the family through an endowment with the Luzerne Foundation. Applicants are graduating seniors and must be a registered parishioner of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish and planning to enroll as an undergraduate in an accredited two or four year College/University as a full-time student with demonstrated financial need. The student selected may have the scholarship renewed up to a total of four years contingent upon the documented annual satisfactory academic and other related criteria used in the selection for the scholarship. Applications can be obtained from the Luzerne Foundation, 140 East Main Street., Luzerne, PA 18709, by going to the website luzfdn.org, or calling or Deadline for application is April 13th. SPECIAL CONFERENCE FOR MEN On Saturday, April 25 th there will be a special conference for Catholic men at King s College Campus. The conference will address the challenges facing men in our culture and seek ways for men to be role models in their families and parishes and to live their faith in service to others. BUS TRIP TO POPE FRANCIS No, we re not taking a bus trip across the Atlantic Ocean to Rome, but we are participating in the Diocesan pilgrimage to Philadelphia on Sunday, September 27, 2015 to attend the outdoor mass of Pope Francis during his visit to the United States. The cost is $40 per person, which does not include meals. There is a $20.00 deposit with reservation. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has not released the day s schedule yet but we anticipate an early departure time.
